Ok I see your point but explain why they would do that? They have 14,000 vehicles already ordered, that means people are going to pay for those cars...but not until they get them. Shutting down the plant for 2 weeks means that they are delaying their own income. It wouldn't make sense to shut down a plant that is producing a vehicle that dealers can't even keep on their lot.
They have to to, the workers are entitled to a vacation and its a bargaining issue. Would you want your car built during the week the workers got screwed out of a vacation?

The factory stops producing cars but it doesn't mean the place is vacant. They take the time to do any maintainance on the machinery and also correct any problems they might be having on the line.

The one thing the Camaro did prove, is that no manufacturer will ever do this again. The pre-ordering just made everyone into a bunch of know-it-alls about how a car line should be run.

Chrysler isn't building much during their bankruptcy, at least for the moment. GM isn't bankrupt, so your friend probably got the two mixed up. GM is extending the 2 week summer shutdown to 2 months at most plants. This shutdown is normally for retooling and maintenance, and to give the employees a break. Its being extended because most vehicles have a 2-3 month supply sitting around already. The Camaro has a waiting list, so it would be foolish for them to idle the plant.

It doesn't matter as far as the Camaro is concerned. Business as usual for the Camaro.
