I posted it around 6pm and it was deleted....

It says US plants to close so maybe Canadian plants won't be affected. Let's hope that the Camaro lines won't be effected with parts and such.

i really want the cars to get built but i'd be more worried about workers losing their jobs, even if the Camaro was made in the U.S.

GM to close plants up to nine weeks

DETROIT - General Motors Corp. is planning to temporarily close most of its U.S. factories for up to nine weeks this summer because of slumping sales and growing inventories of unsold vehicles, two people briefed on the plan said Wednesday.

The exact dates of the closures are not known, but both people said they will occur around the normal two-week shutdown in July to change from one model year to the next. Neither person wanted to be identified because workers have not been told of the shutdowns.

GM spokesman Chris Lee would not comment other than to say the company notifies employees before making any production cuts public.

One of the people briefed on the plan said a few plants that make more popular models could remain open for part of the shutdown period, but at reduced assembly line speeds.

Thousands of workers could be laid off but would still get most of their pay because their United Auto Workers union contract requires the company to make up much of the difference between state unemployment benefits and their wages.

GM is living on $13.4 billion in government loans and faces a June 1 deadline to cut its debt, reduce labor costs and take other restructuring steps. If it doesn’t meet the deadline, the company’s CEO has said it will enter Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

UAW officials at several factories said they have meetings scheduled Thursday and Friday with plant managers and GM human resource officials to discuss production changes.

No mention of plant producing the Camaro

Take a chill pill and go look for those new driving glasses.

1. The article says U.S. Plants. The Camaro is built in Canada.
2. The article says during the normal time that plants retool for the model year change. They are already building the 2010 Camaro so no resaon to shut down and retool.
3. The article says because on slumping sales and growing inventories. There are already close to 15,000 presold Camaros that need to be built and zero inventory.
4. They also are doing this to deal with a cashflow issue. The quicker these cars are delivered the sooner they will flow all of our cash.

You are more likely to see a tire shortage from an infection to rubber trees in Malaysa than the Camaro plant shutting down.

Thanks for the sane response... I wish everyone could read and comprehend before they add fuel to a fire.

GM Shuts Down Most US Plants for 9 Weeks

Unofficial word came out today that GM is shutting down most plants for up to 9 weeks starting in May. Any word from any insiders as to whether or not the Camaro will be effected by this? I had originally been told I would get my car in June/July but if this hits the Camaro it would really suck.

The plant where the Camaro is being built is in Canada

Well "the article" says that but that's just an article. When GM says U.S. they typically really mean North America.

There are cars built at that plant that are stacked up on lots. Like the trucks.

And Ford has been dumping F150's are close to cost. Not to mention Dodge some dealers have 50% msrp on brand new trucks.

The plant is not 100% secure. Nothing is at the moment.
