The Ring is a "public toll road". You pay 31.5 USD for one lap or €89 (115 USD ) for 4 laps, which allows you to drive the track on any definitive license plate. (No temp plates, transit plates or dealer plates as they have in Germany).

As for the camera, I did have one with me on my iPhone, but it's kind of hard to film and actually drive at the same time. The iPhone connector sits in the center console's ice cooler, so I couldn't hold it and drive at the same time. I didn't even think about taking a picture, as I was so, well... excited to have the famous Nordschleife all for myself for 115 USD that I just jumped in the car, and did the four laps without even stopping

I'll see this weekend if I can edit the DVD from the "Chaps on Tour" summer run, and put that video online as a compensation. If I fail doing so, I might as well go during the Xmas/NY week again, and do some extra laps in the Range (with camera and mount, after planning to go and not ending up there unexpected).

A race Track as a toll road. Now there's an interesting concept.

In So Calif we have some nice toll roads that are virtually empty, I always thought they should make them an autobound (sp?) and bump the toll, they would make a killing
