Oh I agree. I've bought all kinds of stuff online. I bought a $5000 tractor online. JUST DO YOUR RESEARCH! Call and confirm everything.

My first line of defense was to tell the scammer I was hiring an independent inspector to look over the car. I actually researched it and it would have cost me $100 for the service.

That's a pretty old scam, but it must work sometimes because it's still around. I've bought a lot of stuff online, including cars, you just need to be cautious and you can find good deals.

Good luck finding your real car, and enjoy messing with the scammer

Hilarious!

The scam scenario was hilarious....thanks. On a more serious note: My grandson lost $10K in an online car buying scam. He's such a smart kid, otherwise, I just don't understand how he let that happen.

I'm still leading the scammer along with promises of a wire transfer.

I ask her yesterday if she had any problems with it shifting from 6th to 7th gear because I heard the 2011 models had that problem.
And I asked her what brand of bumper fluid she'd been using.
Can't wait for the response.

Yes, cars.com sent me an email stating they'd been informed previously it was a scammer and finally pulled the ad.

I guess the scammer caught onto my BS and hasn't responded to my emails. Short fun while it lasted.

If you're going to buy a car out of state, I would only use escrow.com for escrow services. I bought my car using their service and it was great. They called me to notify me of developments every step of the way and made sure to make contact with me two different ways for verification. The cost was minimal and the experience was great. They even let myself and the seller set it up so the money would not be transferred until 48 hours after they confirmed with me that I had received the car and had it inspected.
