Is the fan making a bad noise or running fast? 2 different problems.

Could be the heatsinks did not get enough thermal compound or two much compound causing either the CPU or GPU to get to hot and the fan is running on high to try to keep them cool.

OP: I bet your boss has dealt with similar crazy customers and knows how you feel. You'll be fine. Just try to do everything right, ask the customer what you can do to make it right, and from now on try to get customers to demonstrate the problem before they walk out.

It may just need a new fan. My HP laptop's fan wore out after 2 years. It was a PITA, I had to completely disassemble it to get to the fan which was wedged between the motherboard and the bottom of the case...there was no access panel. I hope yours is easier.

Hey Scott.... So what happen? everything turned out ok I hope.

Yea Im pretty sure everything is going to have to be pulled out. I just wasn't sure if it was possible to replace the fan or not. Ill just let it go until it dies I guess.... the repair guy around here isn't the greatest. I have dealt with him before for my POS and he left me with no scanner for over a week and would not fix it so i drove 2hrs to go get another one.

Hang in there...I deal with these types of idiots all day long as well, I know how frustrating it is sometimes. Deep breaths...very deep breaths. And beer. Lots

You shouldn't wait for the fan to die before replacing it. If it is bad, then it's probably moving less and less air, and your CPU is getting hotter and hotter.

Get a better techie, or be brave and DIY. Laptops can be difficult to get inside, you have to find all the hidden fasteners and know which parts you're expected to just pry off...but as long as you put everything back the way you found it, it will work fine. What model is it?
