What did Saleen say that came true?

And if that was the case...then Saleen leaked info...which could be grounds for an ix-nay on the eel-day...

It's here somewhere. I'll find it in a few and post it up when I get home.

CC: What future projects?
Saleen: Well the Camaro project is one of them, I've watched from a distance while they've been putting the production model together. I think it would be foolish on our part if we didn't get a part of that action (Steve laughs).
CC: So are you going to do your own versions of the new Camaro?
Saleen: It's not legally official right now, but that's what we're hoping for.
CC: What kind of upgrades will you make, have you seen the engine GM is using in the Camaro?
Saleen: I hope I don't get in trouble with GM for saying this, but they're using a 6.2 liter 450 horsepower engine for the premium V8 in the 2009 Camaro and the base Corvette. The base V8 will probably be a detuned version of the same 6.2. So we'll just upgrade the 6.2 liter V8 to Saleen level specifications. We're going to upgrade the 6.2 liter V8 if we're given the legal chance by GM. Our base model should have around 485 horsepower, and expect our Extreme Supercharged Camaro to have over 600 horsepower.
Of course, this hasn't been verified by GM....................

When I first read that interview when it came out, I wasn't sure what to think, but now we know GM has the new LS3 6.2L engine now so maybe it is true.

I wonder if it will have 450 hp or the standard 430...probably the 430hp. If it does have 450, I think that might piss off some vette owners that bought the 430hp or 436hp (exhaust optioned) LS3 in 2008 when they could have waited one year for the 09s and had an additional factory 20 hp out of the LS3.

A lot of Vette owners are already disgruntled about the short run of the LS2.

Don't think it'll go up to 450 for the Maro. Think it's going to hover around 420 to 430. Shoot...I'd be pissed if I got the LS3 and it was "de-tuned" for a lower hp level to keep it from being rated the same as the vette.

Yeah I think the Camaro, if it has an LS3, will be detuned to 420 or so.

I meant more a long the lines if the 2008 LS3 Vette has 430hp and then the 2009 LS3 Vette gets 450hp, that would upset Vette owners that bought the 08. Alot of the guys that have still new 06 and 07 vettes with a now "obsolete" LS2 are also upset.

The Camaro may also not be detuned per se. I think I figured out what GM did to the LS1 F-bodies; GM just advertised a different point of the power curve

Corvette- 350 hp @ 5,600 rpm / 375 lb-ft @ 4,400 rpm
Camaro - 310 hp @ 5,200 rpm / 340 lb-ft @ 4,000 rpm

It stands to reason if you looked at the Camaro's power curve at 5,600 rpm and at 4,400 rpm it would look the same or very close to the Vette. However, that is a pretty big jump after only 400 rpm so I'm not sure if that is the entire story. Either way GM might execute similar sleight of hand with an LS3 Camaro.

Although with SAE certification becoming a standard lately, maybe it won't be underrated at all. I'm talking my self in circles at this point.

I'm totally off topic now, but yeah Saleen was right about the 6.2L GM engine before the LS3 was announced.

EDIT: I don't know how much you want to put in this...but,
What is there to understand what a Camaro is? Saleen is a professional tuner, they have been for many years. They enjoy making the OEM cars look better (to some) and improve performance. What else is there to know about the car

Overanxious hit the nail on the head. Great post.

When you say Saleen to me I always think of the S7. Here is one I drove last year that my buddy Ward owns. It is a TTS7. Incredible car but the wait is too long and the price is off the chain.
