Wreck-less driving should earn an award, not jail time!

Reckless driving on the other hand....

Sorry, couldn't help myself, however, the spelling and grammar on this forum is quite poor in comparison to the Porsche forum that I read. I guess that says something about Camaro owners vs. Porsche owners.

If you do that, then I would hope that the Judge / Officer would dismiss the violation. But before anyone says it....yes I know there are "pricks" out there but hopefully you did not get stopped by one. I myself would dismiss the violation immediatly if the proof was given that you Dad was actually in the hospital.

I would agree to a point. My first question would have been "Why is he in the hospital?" In this job I've seen sooo many people in the ER for the dumbest s---. In the OP's case he said it was dark.... so getting in to see his regular doctor was most likely not possible... therefore the hospital was the only option available, but if its not life threatening?????
" My Dad just got a medi-vac into the hospital (usually not good)" vs. "he's got a 3 inch cut on his arm and needs stitches" if you all get my point.

I've had this case come up twice and am lucky to have the only hospital in the county in my jurisdiction. So what I did was question the driver briefly, wrote down the information from the stop, issued a warning with this stipulation--if I find out you are lying to me I would issue a warrant for the offense and make sure it was for the full amount. No breaks and I would contact the Ag's office to make sure they didn't plea it down either.

I cannot ridicule OP for his decision, it would be tough for me not to do the same, but 20+ is a lil rough

Like silver said, we get the excuse almost bi-weekly. It almost makes you seem cold that you don't really believe everyone now... even so, there isn't much they can do when they arrive.

If it is more than 21 over, I will generally cite... tell the driver to meet me in court with the discharge paperwork... if he takes me to court and has the paperwork, I won't look at it (always concerned I might be violating some type of HIPAA law).. I just inform the judge of what the documentation is and let him take the civil liability lol...

I guess if he had a buddy who is a nurse, he could probably falsify it, but if he wants to go through all that trouble of purging himself and lying under oath to get me OT and have me dismiss his ticket... more power to him. One good thing about FL is the SA/DA does not really intervene with traffic. The officer has the freedom to request a dismissal in court and a judge very rarely ever questions it.

..Regardless, no one ever took me up on that offer... so I guess you can do the math.

Try going before the judge and man up, apologize for not thinking too clearly and tell him you learned a lesson! The only time I drove like that was when my son got attacked by a dog and I was driving him to the hospital.
I often send my son to return movies on his bike, it could be worse then a speeding ticket. You could have hit some child or animal.
A 25mph zone is the worst zone to be speeding in. Good luck to you, but please rethink speeding in residential area's next time.

Brantley847, HIPAA only applies to the health providers, example:I cannot give any Pt. Info. to anyone other than other health care providers dealing with the care of that Pt. without a release. You don't violate anything if you are shown something by a Pt. or other persons and you didnt provide any care or service to that Pt.

Thanks for all your advice. My plan as of now is to go into court and take responsibility for my actions along with having the discharge papers that state why he was in the hospital (heart problems) and see how everything goes but no matter what I definitely learned my lesson.

Glad to see you manned up and took responsibility.

49 in a 25 is way too fast. You'd hate yourself if you ran over someone just to save 5 mins.
