Fixed it for you. The only difference is the stickers. There is nothing stock about stock car racing anymore.

The economy is definitely a factor though. Anytime bad news about the economy makes it into the news people clamp down on spending. Almost as soon as something else comes up people start spending again. It has been very interesting to watch our sales numbers over the past couple of years.

Nascar cookie cutter cars suck period. If i hear one more time about down force on the nose i'm going to guy out front just cruises, boring.
Replaced some good tracks with boring mile and a half cookie cutters.
No racing back to the line, freeze the field rule was totall over reaction in name of safety, took away great battles to the line.
They did everything they could to make good ol boy racing sport that was colorfull and fun and turned it bland and pussified.
I watched every race 10 years ago, i've been to 20 tracks. Now, i don't even care to watch, nor go, and i was as die hard as they get.
Economy, lucky for me, had nothing to do with me loosing interest in the sport. It did get ridiculously expensive to go, and certainly i understand those that can't afford $300 a weekend in tickets.

This concludes my rant.

With NASCAR its both. There are WAY too many races and the ticket prices are WAY too high.

A return to legitimate stock car racing would actually cause me to watch NASCAR. I'll watch Formula 1 if I want to see purpose-built machines I'll never be able to drive.

It is one part the economy, and about three parts NASCAR itself that is the problem. The races are engineered to the point that you can predict what will happen well ahead of time. The changes to the point system every year in a futile attempt to find a way for Earnhardt to be able to make it are simply confusing people. The new car/aero package has destroyed the 4 restrictor plate races. (70 lead changes a races isn't entertaining when it is just taking turns, and not actual racing).

But the biggest single reason is the races are such a bore. If they want people to watch, they need to start going to tracks that allow for good racing, and bring cars that actually make it possible to put on a good show. Why would someone spend $100/ticket, drive hundreds or thousands of miles on $4/gal gas, get gouged by local hotels, sit in traffic 4 hours each way at the parking gates, get gouged again by the vendors inside when for $10, they can go to the 1/3 mile oval 30 miles away, and actually get to watch an exciting show. NASCAR can't beat Jefferson Speedway on Saturday night.

You have to win races to take advantage of this new points system. I don't think Junior has been the same since he got all burned up in that C6 wreck in Sonoma a couple years back. Once you lose your nerve you might as well retire.

I think it had more to do with his dad dying. I wouldn't want to be him. He has a ton of pressure on him to be just like the old man.

Make all the race teams build Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger race cars. No generic body style, Toyota can GTFO, throw in more road courses, voila, NASCAR suddenly became more entertaining.
That wouldn't be NASCAR, that would be like the old Trans Am racing. But yea, I would watch that.

I honestly think its more NASCAR than the economy. No one wants to watch someone drive in a circle over and over again, especially when they're all the same cars.

Well, whatever the problem, they better figure it out pretty fast, or things as they know it now will no longer exist.

I went to Darlington every year in the 90's and often two or three races a year. Then NA$CAR started getting greedy adding new tracks and leaving the base behind. They peaked and then the "new TV package" the tv coverage sucks and Dale was killed in the first race of the package. The all Waltrip tv and constant commercials sealed the deal. I no longer care if I miss the race, mowing the lawn is just about as good as the "racing" today or as they say "putting on a good show"
