It is fixable but probably only to get you by until you can buy a newer slim version. It usually messes up again a few months later. The first Xbox I owned was a 360 that already had the red ring of death. I bought it just to try and fix it and got it on the first try. So its easy.

funny my 10 year old XBOX and 11 year old PS2 are still working 100% after a decade of being owned. my PS3 is one of the 'launch' 'slim' models that came out about 2 years ago still working like brand new and I use it more than my PS2 or xbox or even my Wii

I've never had one issue with my PS3 and it gets used much more than any of my failed 360s did. I'm now on my third 360 and if it wasn't for Gears I wouldn't have bothered purchasing the current 360. As soon as I'm finished with Gears I'll be getting rid of it.

My 360 has held up good so far. It's a Halo edition. I remember researching at the time when I was gonna buy one about all the different revisions and what to look for. Mine has a big heat sink and a large copper heat pipe. So I think between that and the fact that I don't use it as much as my ps3 (mainly because everyone I know has ps3) I think it will last forever. Only thing that sucks is it's only 20gigs and that filled up fast. I wanted the elites HD but those were dying left and right at the time.

I would love the new Gears 3 console if this ever shat out.
