Nice and quiet. Inexpensive. Cheap to feed. Legal. Gets the job done and it's a whole lot more entertaining than trapping.

I've got the whisper with the silencer and some pointed hunting pellets. Works like a charm on crows, racoons and ferel cats.

And before any communist libs cry wolf, it's legal in my state to shoot any vagrant animal that is within 100 yards of my property. www.dnr.sc.gov

Actually I don't think its legal even to discharge a BB gun in the city limits of Phoenix.

cats do like to climb on cars. there are probably some kind of sprays that would turn them off, but you wouldn't want to spray something on your car, so i'm at a loss at what to tell you

If you capture them in a humane, live trap, that doesn't hurt 'em, the Animal Control Dept. from your county govt. should come and pick 'em up from you without problems. My apt. managers do that from time to time, here in San Bernardino County. It really makes a difference until the next generation of strays repopulates the dumpsters.

Right now, we are due for another culling of cats.

It takes a lot of work and time but it's about the only way you can get rid of them.
This.

If you watch them animal cop shows, if you feed them, you are liable for their health and well being.

So that old lady owns them cats, AC should be willing to trap them if they have an owner and your concerned they are in neglect.

I don't believe the OP is troubled by local cats getting into the trash as much as the feral cat issue itself. In many American cities, cats have been allowed to multiply beyond the numbers cat owners are willing to feed.:(

When cat owners realize there are too many cats at their house , they sometimes load the excess animals into the car, drive 'em to a distant neighborhood and ditch 'em there to become THAT neighborhood's burden.

I have seen a guy do this outside of our apt. complex! He dumped about eight or ten of 'em and was gone before I could do anything about it.

Within two generations of cats and kittens, these exiles have produced whole mobs of FERAL felines, yuck!

I've been told I can get rid of them as I see fit but usually that has consequences when weird people are involved. I might try some of this repellent spray around the perimeter of my car.
I have the same issue, but not an apartment complex. Just don't have a garage. The guy across the street feeds them. I actually asked for help yesterday from animal control, because the new litter was all over my car the night before, and I have scratches on my stripes. I guess it's going to be traps for me.

I use a motion sensor alarm, but one is not enough to cover the whole area around the car. They get a little pricey when you have to buy two or three, and keep batteries in them. Traps are free from animal control.

This is a funny thread. Why? I had the same problem just a couple weeks ago. They liked to get into my engine compartment. There was three of them. So here's what I did: waited until they went under the hood. They could not get out faster than me grabbing them. So I snatched one of them under the hood. He tore my hand up. So don't make the same mistake it did...I grabbed him by the head. Big mistake. Grab them by the back of their neck...most people know this but I had to think fast without planning it. The other one was caught while he was sleeping in a chair on my patio...lol. Can you guess what I did with them?
