From personal experience, the U.S. built Japanese models are a lot more dependent upon Japanese made components than are virtually any of the domestic models I can think of. For every Japanese made component the typical, North American assembled Ford or GM product has a North American assembled Toyota or Honda is going to have forty or fifty. Toyota and Honda didn't just fall off the face of the planet, the circumstances in Japan are hurting them and to a much greater degree than the same situation is affecting the domestics.

I would love to eventually see these same results because of outright U.S. automaker dominance, but right now that isn't what is driving this.

Of the full line manufacturers(compared to those that sell only luxury vehicles) GM has the highest per vehicle transaction price at $33,000.
Hyundai, for comparison has one of the lowest at $19,000.

I thought full-line manufacturer meant that they sell vehicles in all segments, so cars, trucks, SUV, etc (in other words, they have a full product line). That would make GM, Ford, Toyota, Chrysler, and Nissan the only true full line manufacturers in the US market.
