It sounds like a nice little car....it also sounds like it's going to get it's ass handed to it by the Camaro in a couple months. No fan-boying, here...those times aren't super-impressive for $30,000, AND -- that's the best it can do in terms of trim-levels...the V6 Camaro should be able to replicate all those numbers for less $$ (the CTS can't be used as a reliable comparison, too many differences).....as for the upper-level Camaro -- the SS will just annihilate it for a couple thousand more.
Still -- I think that's a nice little car. Almost like toned-down, 4-seat 370z. If only it weren't ugly as sin.....

It's ugly. It will get beat by a Camaro LS that costs thousands less. It's really ugly. The Camaro SS will sink its battleship. Did I mention how ugly it is? It's pretty incredibly ugly.

Edmunds 0-60 time seems to be an anomaly. Most others I've seen are deep into the 5 second range. And FOR THE LOVE OF GOD CAN WE STOP ASSUMING $30K IS THE BASE PRICE? That's a V6 with a leather interior and all the boxes checked. Take a 2LT Camaro, check all the option boxes, including the sport suspension and brembo brakes...oh wait, you can't get those things on the V6 Camaro. You can get a V6 Genesis Coupe for the low $20Ks, and you can get a V6 Camaro for the low $20Ks. Deal with it. Admit it. It reduces torque on hard upshifts to protect the drivetrain. The Camaro skips 2nd and 3rd gears to get "extra" fuel economy. I too think the Genesis coupe is pretty ugly, but I know just as many people who think the Camaro is ugly. I guess styling is one of those subjective things...

Also, I'd like to point out that this photo illustrates that the seats will actually hold you in place in turns:
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do.../photoId=76472 Also note the Genesis coupe has a curb weight closer to what a performance car should actually weigh. I don't love it, but I sure do respect it.

Edmunds botched their numbers. Everyone else has gotten better, and I know this really doesn't mean much but if you bench race the stats you have to figure the real numbers have to be much better. You can't get a track package on the Camaro V6 at any price, and I imagine the more reasonable weight pays big dividends in the actual driving experience as well.

Yes the V6 Genesis coupe with the track package and brembos and shiny plastic everywhere will keep up with a base level Camaro, maybe even beat it around a track. The weight advantage helps with this. However... By the time you GET that car into the leather, brembo, ''sport suspension'' area, you've already spent as much as if you were to get a base 370z or close to an SS. You can argue all day long that the car 'starts' down low like the base Camaro, but it comes with a sonata engine and a crappy suspension. base for base, the Camaro wins. Track package vs. SS the Camaro wins. You'd have to be STUPID to take a tricked out 30k+ Genesis coupe over ANY 370z or ANY SS which is exactly what you'd be doing if you bought one of these.

A tick over 13.0 sec. and you're through the quarter-mile. It's a rush, of course, but not overly dramatic. Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

It depends if you want leather or not. If you do, then your Camaro SS will run you about $35K, same for the 370Z. If you don't want leather, then the SS is down to $30K and the genesis is cheaper. Also, with less weight having less power isn't as much as a liability as it is made out to be, especially when your thinking isn't limited to straight 1/4 miles.

And as I've said before, only Edmunds is posting crappy 0-60 times. All others were deep in the 5 second range. And that's still thinking only in terms of straight line acceleration.

Straight Line : Camaro SS Not Straight Line : 370z The Genesis just seems like a watered down RX-8 that is too fat and doesnt rev high enough
