We don't even bother with bordatella shots for our dogs because there's always a new strain of kennel cough. And we never board anyway. (You can get something called a "titers" test to show your dog doesn't have kennel cough if you need to board him and you don't have the vaccination.)
As I recall, both our dogs had kennel cough when they first entered our "pack" and they got over it quickly.
Nevertheless, I would take your pooch to the vet.

I remember when we brought Simon home from the pound, he was sneezing for about a week. After that, he no longer had the sneeze and he's been a happy dog ever since!

Well, good news. Woody is feeling a lot better and the cough has gone away. He does not actually stay in a kennel but he may have picked it up from an animal at the local dog park we take him to. We have no other pets so that ruled out that possibility of how he got it. We have changed his food and water regularly and he seems to be a lot better
