20 years active duty and there's been talk but it never happened, til now. It's absurd to say the least. I did already let my congressman know how unappreciated he is right now! I suggest you all do the same!

This is utter total Bullshit!!!These folks trade in the constitution to defend and protect it for the UCMJ and the asswipes in congress cut their pay in half. And to top it off this is the Worlds Finest Fighting Forces unmatched and it's all "Volunteers" who write that blank check for the defence of this county. Scuttlebutt in the field says Half pay= half work

Very sad but before setting off the revolution on this forum, the government has been shutdown 17 times prior to the looming shutdown.

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/_news...-in-us-history

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/fed...facts_and.html

GI's will get back pay within 5 days of an approved budget. If solved early enough, the mid month pay will be unaffected.

The only difference between now and the previous 17 times is the "news" media and the Internet providing a means of communicating rapid opinions (including this one) on the gov shutdown.

Wasn't as news worthy the previous 17 times????

A budget will get passed, the world will continue to spin.

Just a FYI from Alaskan military perspective. Again this is if one were stationed in Alaska.

A 19 year old, E-3 with a wife or husband, living off base takes home after taxes almost 50k a year. Not exactly poverty level up here. Elsewhere is different I know.

What has failed to have been mentioned is the previous 17 times, the PRESIDENT protected the military from being effected....not so this time around.

It is more about the fact that the military is being considered as "non-essential" when we are involved in 3 conflicts!!! If I am so non-essential then cancel my orders to asscrackistan and let me stay home with my family!!!!!

Please cite your sources, I am unable to find any information validating this.

After some more research, this is the best I could come up regarding my question.

http://m.cnn.com/primary/_4W405l-imqXThVbjd

The article suggests most of the shutdowns were too short in existence to necessitate a bill to protect military members. Congress did approve military finances for the longer (26 day) budget dilemma.

They can "drop" $600 million+ in Libya in a "lets see what happens next" plan, but they can't pay our COMBAT soldiers.
or....
if Planned Parenthood don't get their money, neither does the military.

No pay for our soldiers is a bunch of BS as we prance around the world telling all who will listen how great we are as a nation, But we cannot afford to pay our troops.
Don't get me wrong I love this country but no pay for the men and women fighting for our freedoms while the the suits continue to collect their cash is just crazy!

I will not work for free and my life is not on the line every day
