Wankles are way simpler than a reciprocating piston engine. They've only got 1 moving part for what is equivalent to a bank of 3 cylinders.
I stand corrected

Yep, a rotary rebuild can be done in a matter of a few hours with the right garage and a few friends. Good thing too, as they like to blow apex seals fairly often.

Maybe you were thinking of OPOC (Opposed Piston Opposed Cylinder) engines: 4 pistons, 2 cylinders, and 1 crankshaft? Or perhaps the quasi-turbine that's sorta like a Wankel with a variable geometry rotor?

Sounds sort of similar to the sheet metal engine they had back in the day for drag racing. no trans either. you could mix almost any two gasses and it spun at like 30,000rpm or higher.

was made illegal after a while as when they blew up, they sent parts deep into the pavement.

One of my friends did a presentation on this motor in a senior seminar class. Seems pretty cool, I am just curious how they will accurately control timing with it. Also it doesn't propel the car at all from my understanding. It's just a generator for an electric motor.
