And you can get an SE for less than a V6 Mustang. SE starts at $22 500, then employee pricing and $1000 in bonus cash and you're under $20k. You can't just start tossing discounts and incentives on one car and not another.

Does it start at 22k? I saw one today at a Dodge dealer for 28k, although it was reasonably well equipped, thus the comparison.

Was it an SE E package or an SE G package? The SE G package starts at $25k

A V6 in a Mustang fits its overall image as a steed for every need. The V6 Camaro will be a honest-to-goodness sporty car,but the V6 Challenger? Good lord, that car is garbage, the whole idea of a car that looks as good and mean like that with a weak-ass engine is garbage. The new Challenger should be V8 only.

Why buy a V6 pony car? The V6 is about buying a cool looking sporty coupe.
Car and Driver:

Challenger SE - 0-60 7.8 1/4 16.0
Mustang V6 - 0-60 6.5 1/4 15.3

Why buy a Challenger SE? It's a pig.

So they both perform like my grandma but at least the challenger is fresh looking and not sitting on EVERY street corner.

A tick over 13.0 sec. and you're through the quarter-mile. It's a rush, of course, but not overly dramatic. Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

How in the world could those numbers be so radically different? Yeah the Challengers heavy, and I won't question the accuracy of those times, but wow. I would have pegged them both to be in the 6.5-7.0s range (I don't follow V6 pony car times much).

I've never understood the point of buying a V6 pony car (I'll make exceptions for the Camaro's DI V6 and the Ecoboost). The entire point of a pony car is to get a big engine, and a V6 completely defeats the purpose.

And the Mustang's game has ALWAYS been to offer a somewhat inferior product at a lower cost. Considering how well it's worked for the last several years, I can't say I blame their strategy.
The only reason I said that is the SE is getting a DI V6 in 2010-2011

So add another to the list of "do not buy" until the 2010-2011 model year. There's no reason to buy a Challenger SE,V6 Mustang or Mustang GT this year. I'm really hoping for improvements of the SE and base Mustang, not that i'd consider either but they've got to hold up their end.

So let me get this straight, you guys are dogging cars that have a V6 for not having good performance numbers? You guys are sharp. You dont buy a V6 ponycar for the performance, you buy it for the styling.

you buy it for both....some people cant afford a v8 and want a good performing v6...not a granny car disguised as a muscle car....its 2009 not 1970 v6s can be fast
