I think the root of it is that people are bandwagoning. One person says it, they know they can't afford to mod their car, so they jump on the bandwagon telling people "it's a waste of money to mod your car" It's never a waste if that's what you want.

In general people think cars are "INVESTMENTS Now that may be true if you are buying a collectable car from yester year, but think back to 1964 when the Mustang came out or 1967 when the Camaro came out. How many people bought them and said " Oh boy I got a winner here and put them up till 2010 and now want premium dollar for them?" AND if they did do that the only way they get premium money is all ORIGINAL.

BUT part of owning a hotrod, streetrod, sportscar etc.... is making it your own, thus customizing, some add value but most do not since most have the opinion if you add HP that you do not take care of it and rag it out and it will not be mechanically sound making it less valuable. SO who cares, enjoy it. IF you bought this car as an investment, put it in a garage cover it up and uncover in 30 years and hope it is worth alot more than you paid, otherwise just enjoy it.

As far as the other references to fishing, hunting, golfing etc... anytime you buy something and use it it will go down in value. The funny thing about value is that no one can tell you what it is. SO WHAT you don't buy a fishing rod thinking about selling it, you buy a fishing rod to go fishing.

VALUE or WORTH is what someone is willing to pay you at a given time. Just like a baseball card, just because it has an apprasied value of 1000.00 does not mean anything unless someone is willing to give you that 1000.00. JMHO

I had to read the original post twice, then it dawned on me, I don't care what other people say. I buy and enjoy what I want. Even if they told me that when I purchase a new putter or fishing reel... again, don't care, enjoy what I have.

I haven't read all the posts here, but I would tend to agree in general. Although, when I had my 99 Z28 I put an SLP shifter in it. when I turned the lease back in, I was able to sell the shifter on the eBay, and get 90% of it back.

My dad is a huge golfer. He gets a new club constantly. He's got enough he could start his own shop.
