I got pulled over last spring for no front plate. I called the court house and said I put it on. They told me to take a picture and send it in and pay like $25 for processing. I didn't actually have it on the car I just double sided taped it on.

I understand the revenue angle. My question was more pointed at the fact that you usually don't get new plates until 4 to 6 weeks after signing the loan paperwork. Do they give out plates on new car sales immediately in NY?

That would only be for a temp tag, works like that anywhere, you only get 1 temp tag for the back.

+1 The company I work for pools money together and makes a nice donation to the NYS troopers every year. I have 2010 and 2011 cards on my windshield. I got pulled over once and the cop never got out just pulled up next to me and said "i didnt realize you had a card on the windsheild. Have a good day and thanks for helping out" and drove away. But as for the front place magnets hold mine on when I need to get by on the fix it ticket. Right now as its the begining of the season I keep it displayed but once its a month into the season in the trunk it goes.

Yes in NYS you have plates when you leave the dealer. They issue new plates or transfer the registration from the old car. Vanity plates have to be ordered later for an additional fee. My registration has two plate numbers on it my original and my vanity. When you order a car in NYS you are required to buy a front plate bracket. They are not installed in Oshawa
but are placed in the trunk, if you are lucky the dealer will honor your request not to mount it. I asked for mine to be left in the trunk and it was.

Why is it that where ever I've lived in the world, it's the same? A man is always blamed for whatever the problem of the moment is!
