CR is horrible sometimes. I used to sell appliances and they would rate two identicle models at opposite ends of their ratings. They would have a Kenmore washer that was made by Whirlpool as a "Best Buy" and the same model with the Whirlpool name on it as the 10th rated washer. The only difference was the name tag. They get a lot of things wrong. Camaro rules!!!!

I thought Consumer Reports just picked cars from their biggest advertisers. It sounds like Ford joined the bandwagon with Toyota, Hyundai, and Honda.

In the eyes of MANY including Consumer report and Motortreend and Etc the Mustang will always be the one on top SOME HOW.
Even if Camaro does Top it like it did last year People will find something to put Mustang up close to the Top.

It Came around first , It never left and its whole out look of the car is just almost to much to over come.

Its ok My Garage holds two of the best looking cars in Gm History I dont need a magazine to tell me whats good and what isnt.

if you are happy with the car then thats all that matters. To many people have to have the newest thing and the best to LOOK Good.
Drive what you like and PSSSSSSH on the others.

I agree. And in the case of a non-luxury coupe with 300+HP you don't buy it for practicality. You buy it for the fun factor, its looks, the looks it gets you while driving it, and bang for the buck.

The sales numbers tell it all. Even with the 5.0 and a GT500 and Convertible, the Mustang STILL lost in sales in 2010. Plain and simple, consumers tend to chose the Camaro over the Mustang.

I think DG hit it on the head. They are gonna use a criteria template no matter the vehicle. So you get low scores in a category that you don't even give a damn about because of the generic scoring design.

Gotta give Mustang a little props though. It is a nice total package.

As for the Mustang, it has do with the choices, the above reproach handling, the high quality interior, the excellent 5.0 engine. I do agree it is not actually a sports car, maybe they should have said sporty car?
I guess that's fair. I really don't know much about the other ones. It just seemed odd.

Some don't want/don't like to hear it, but the Camaro will always play second fiddle to the Mustang in the eyes of the general population. Ford created the "ponycar" segment and GM did not come with an answer until years later. Regardless of how many Camaro's get sold, how much better it performs, or how well the styling is received, it will always be in the shadow of the Mustang.

Now, when you address automotive enthusiasts, however, all that goes out the door.

Well, it's not like the Camaro has never outsold the Mustang throughout the history of both vehicles. It's happened several times but the Camaro still cannot displace the Mustang as the iconic American ponycar.

Elvis is still the iconic American musician, not Michael Jackson.
The Beatles are still the iconic British rock band; not Def Leppard.
CocaCola is the iconic American softdrink; not Pepsi.

MJ might've had more hits than Elvis, Def Leppard could have sold more records than the Beatles and Pepsi might sit in more peoples refrigerators than Coke, but none of those facts changes anything about how they are perceived. Get the point?

Yeah....most people are slaves to their perceptions...
Comforting...

I don't think that's why Consumer Reports gave it mention, though. There is no "heritage" category...and I have a feeling most of their readers wouldn't know what the word meant.

DGthe3 has a very good point...when compared and rated like every other A-B car...the Mustang does quite well.

Well, so far this generation it seems people want the Camaro moreso than the Mustang. It seems that perceptions change and labeling them as "fact" soley rests on what time period you are speaking of.

the 5th gen Camaro is still new and heavily advertised and propelled by the Transformers movies. I would be willing to bet that a huge percentage of the sales so far is the result of said movies, not necessarily because it is a "Camaro." I wojuld be willing to bet that it will be short lived as usual. This is my 6th Camaro and know that the Mustang will always be the overall sales king. The camaro will have its moments though. Anyone willing to bet that at the end of this decade, the Mustang once again will have sold more than the Camaro? Car for a car, this could be the official contract. Anyone?

Don't forget there were a number of years with no Camaro being produced. This lead to a pent up demand. Due to this I'm actually surprized that the Camaro hasn't out sold the Mustang buy a much larger margin. I would guess the demand for the Camaro will probably taper off over the next couple of years.
