As I'm sure you can see by all the responses, no one cares about the HYUNDAI, competition or not. Yeah, close the thread b/c the OP can't handle the fact that he is the only one that likes the HYUNDAI and as stated earlier should go buy one.

I understand where diddiyo is coming from. I give credit where credit is due. Hyundai has changed their brand quite a bit in the last five years, as has GM. A lot of people are stuck in the old stereotypes, and therefore cannot have an open mind about change. There are hardcore import fans who will spout till their death bed "I'll never buy American because I don't want awful quality!" (I had to educate a fellow coworker on this very subject today). We know this is no longer true, but close minds will behave as they will.

That being said, I don't really like the genesis coupe. I sat in one at NAIAS and wasn't particularly impressed. I think you're going to be hard pressed to beat the value of the Camaro, which is why such a negative view is held of the Genesis. Plus the front clip just doesn't do it for me...

I did not say you can't bring up the competition(?)....but when you say "maybe it's time to rethink"....well...what the F**K do you think people will respond back to you with??? Showers of love? You can call me closed-minded all you want, at least I know better than to slap Camaro lovers in the face ON A CAMARO FORUM. Brilliant! Now, please close the thread so no one else will pick on poor diddyo.

Give the guy a break folks. I personally hate the look of it and mentioning Hyundai and performance in the same sentence just seems wrong. But Hyundai is younger than GM was when it began introducing serious performance vehicles.

Now as for it being a competitor to the Camaro . . .
Base vs base, Camaro wins. Simple as that. 1SS vs 3.8 track, well Camaro still wins.

But where its really interesting is in the mid level cars, the 1LT/2LT vs 3.8/3.8GT because the Camaro will get out performed due to weight and having a smaller engine (same power, but as they say 'theres no replacement for displacement'), and I think the Hyundai might come with a couple more features while at the same price but I have no real idea about that though.

While the overall public opionion here in the states definately has Chevy over Hyundai, that does not mean there are a ton of people here (in the US) that despise Chevy along with the rest of the Big 3 due to some false sense of import supieriority. And we surely do not want to know what the Koreans think of Chevy and the Camaro lol! As for the Genesis itself, it is a pretty ok car, but I think the sedan version will do better than the coupe, simply because it is a cheap alternative to the 7 Series, LS, and whatever Mercedes sedan it has its sights set on. While of course it is not as nice as those cars, it is not too far away, and the price difference is so substantial that in this economy people will get over the fact it is a luxury Hyundai and buy it. As for the coupe, it will have some trouble competing with the already cheap entry level sportscar class. just my $.02.

Hmm I am suprised that the 5spd auto upgrade is so expensive, is this the way it is on most other cars? Also I hate that they make you take the sunroof on applicable trim levels.

You guys are ridiculous. This car will definitely be on my list right next to the Camaro, along with the RX-7 and RX-9 Mazda is working on. The Camaro is at the top of my list, but it is much heavier than I would like and I'm not a fan of the way the bundled options and trims, so you'd better believe cars like this are getting another look. Hyundai did pretty much everything right here. They deserve respect and some open minds. As others have said, you all would be getting pissed at anyone who so blindly dismissed Chevy.

I honestly feel bad for anyone seriously considering this car.

30k. Thats how much it will cost you to come CLOSE to the camaro. This car is GARBAGE in comparison.

compare this instead... RX-9

A tick over 13.0 sec. and you're through the quarter-mile. It's a rush, of course, but not overly dramatic. Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

I think it should stack up very well. Its smaller size and lower weight should make it more fun on the tight twisty roads. Absolute power is down, but there's no reason that on a general level it can't be just as quick and fun. So the price is very fair.
