Soon we will see how the real judges, the consumers, feel about the Volt...

I also wonder how they figured out the disposal emissions for the 400 lbs of the Volts battery. To my knowledge, there aren't any facilites that can do it, and there won't really be a need for them for quite some time. Its one thing to analyze the recycling cost of steel, aluminum, or plastic. Those are all mature processes. But Li-ion recycling is in its infancy at best right now. Anyone who predicts what it will be in 10 years is essentially guessing.

I wonder, do they include the half a million gallons of bunker diesel that ships burn when they take a load of Priuses from Japan to America? Or do they ignore that out of convenience?

THIS

how about the mining and exporting of Nickel from Sudbury to Japan to make the batteries?

and did anyone else catch that they said the ForTwo mileage was better at 41hwy/33city compared to 40hwy/35city ???? That's just plain old wrong, by their own numbers no less. You have to take mileage numbers with a grain of salt at the best of times. There are so many factors involved that you end up averaging averages. So at WORST these two vehicles probably have the same mileage.

You gotta wonder sometimes who's running this circus

Yup.

It would be like figuring more horse power = faster.

Just not true. Too many factors involved.

However, if I were in need of a car that got the best gas mileage because of my income to expense, the last thing I'd buy is a Volt. I'd buy a Prius WAY before that. I'd just have to hold my nose while I drive.

Actually, I think they send the nickel to Germany (from Sudbury) for processing before sending it to Japan to be turned into batteries. Though I'm not sure how much nickel that actually amounts to

Go figure...the most practically-useable, 'greenest' car in the world gets snubbed by a bunch of know-nothings who'd factor a vehicles weight into 40% of the total consideration over all its other abilities...

I'd say this invalidates any opinion they have, just like the blind-recommending invalidated consumer reports.

When will it stop?
