I'm assuming Fresno means you're in California.

Did you really think you would never have any law enforcement issues with putting any amount of tint on any of the external lights on your car?

California is the most anal-retentive state about vehicle modifications. You had to have known that doing anything to any part of your car was going to come back and bite you in the ass eventually. So, why are you moaning about it?

I was pulled over by Coronado PD and was issued a fix it ticket. I just paid the fine of $150 and just did not want to go thru the hassle. The hassle to take off tint, find a cop to sign off the ticket, take to Chula Vista Court house to pay $20 Admin fee, and then retint side windows. I've been next to CHP's, San Diego PD, LAPD and other Law Enforcement and never was pulled over. Those cops had better things to do than issue a fix it ticket. But Coronado PD are a bunch of Nazi's when it comes to vehicle infractions. Oh, my tint is 20% by the way.

Tinting the tail lights is not a "cool" mod IMO. You only look slightly "different" and it IS a safety issue not to mention a good reason for a Law Enforcement Officer to pull you over and look you over REAL good.. Soo.... WHY WOULD ANYONE DO IT?!?!. DUH!

If I were you, I would show up for the preliminary hearing (if you have one) and ask for a trial. The cop will probably not show up for such a petty offense and you have nothing to loose by trying. If the cop does not show up (he won't), you can ask for the charge to be dismissed because the state has no witness. It works - Been there, done that and would do it again ANY TIME. The cops have other, better things to do with thier time so why would they bother showing up at court date to fight a "decent guy" with nothing more than a bad azz car?

Hope this helps.

-Mark.

Not all participate in it but in these times, screwed up tickets that most folks will just pay help keep their job as the city coffers everywhere are running low.

Why also in these times if you are allowed so, you say not guilty and make them set up a trial, costing them 10x more then a jacked up ticket will get them. Which will have the prosecutor eager to play “lets make a deal” so they can cancel the trial.

You have them over a barrel then.

Ca cops are hard nosed about tint. Cops can't see if you are on the cell phone or aren't wearing a seat belt. Remove the tint and pay up. There is no "prosecutor" on traffic offenses in Ca.

If they test the lights and find that they are not within the states parameters (for example in NC tail lights have to be able to be seen for at least 1/4 of a mile), then yes not only will you be considered at fault in the wreck but you could also be facing a lawsuit from the other person involved in the accident.

I often have this highway patrol in a Charger follow me close as if challenging me to step on the gas.

Brought it up because a lot of people think.... oh so I might just get a ticket, but you could be facing way worse than a ticket. Especially, on the lights, whether it be head, tail, or side markers. Just say'n
