The smile is hopefully the kick in the nuts feeling for those being a hypocrite for the last year and a half.

It's amazing how many people are thrilled that even more companies than we originally thought require a helping hand to survive.

Disgusting. So much corruption and supposed justification for it. However, loans are not why GM is called government motors. It's sickening that all these companies had to be bailed out. The fact that they hid the company names is even worse. So much sketchiness coming from the USA nowadays.

I'm not sure what's being implied here; somehow equating the bailout of GM and Chrysler with propping up the credit market. But the above quote is the most important point here. The taxpayers aren't on the hook for this.

The disturbing thing to me is the lack of disclosure.

The following is NOT aimed at any one party or person. It is a general comment.

So when my daughter graduates from college... I'm going to tell her,

"Sweetie, don't worry about your loans. Just borrow more money to pay off the debt you already have... And don't worry about the fact that you don't have a job yet and don't make enough money to pay your loans. cus you can always borrow more. And don't forget to spend the money you borrow, you need to buy that new house. And if your neighbor can't afford to pay his house payment go ahead and loan them what you have in the bank so they can survive..."

So lemme get this straight.... Our government, (ALL OF IT) doesn't make enough money to pay the bills so we Borrow, Spend and Loan out the money we don't have...

I'm not really an extremist... but on this one thing in particular... Every one of those knuckleheads in D.C. are quilty on this one. Every one.

I know I'm bending the rules a bit... please leave party or personal politics out of this thread...

Let's not confuse the "lending" piece of the business with the "building and selling cars" piece of the business. These loans all went to the credit arm of these automotive companies unfortunately. This paragraph explains how poor the old business model was:

Quote:
While Chrysler and General Motors had to go to Congress to beg for cash in 2008, every other automaker's finance arm was having trouble as well. Typically, once they lend money to a buyer, they sell the loan, get the cash upfront, then pump the proceeds back into the business. They also take out short-term loans called commercial paper that keeps the day-to-day business afloat. The crash cut the circuit, raising the chances the automakers couldn't make loans to buyers and keep selling new vehicles.
It's sort of how the old GM got into buying and selling derivatives and futures in crap they had no business being in. Just stick to building and selling cars.

I'm curious why McDonalds needed a loan. First off, what kind of financing do they need, and second, don't they usually clean up in a recession?
