Until you drive a higher horsepower AWD car, you can't possibly understand how fun they are. 5k launches with 400awhp in a car that weighs 3300 lbs is unlike anything else. Plus I can lift the front inside tire if I hit a turn hard enough LOL
I'd seriously look into an STI if they weren't so damned expensive (and I needed a new car..)

The Camaro, though nice for warm weather driving just isn't all that fun when you can't whip it around in the snow without worrying about the fools around you.

GM.. Cruze Hatch, AWD powertrain.. LNF/LNJ. Then maybe I'd stay GM for a winter/DD. Right now I'm seriously looking at Subies for the AWD (and boxer engine.. what. I wub Boxers. ) when the cash flow picks up for a second car and the T/A is paid off.

When they upgraded the standard WRX to the EJ25 out of the Legacy Turbos, it caused a bump in horse power to 280. They didn't do any work to the STi at that time so it was still rated at 300. The STi 6-speed is insanely heavy for a manual tranny and makes the STi heavier then the standard WRX. Plus the added wieght of the wing and such. The weight difference combined with a more open gear ratio in the trannies was enough to make the standard WRX faster then the STi in some tests. I believe since that time however the STi has gotten a few horse power bump. When you get the STi you are paying for alot stronger car mechanically. The STi tranny has been handling HP in the 500's with only a clutch upgrade. The stock WRX Trannies have been blowing gears if they are run too hard at the strip.

I seem to remember talking to one of the San Diego members on here that had a fairly large list of mods that he was preparing to do. His reason: "I had an STi stomp all over me the other day on the highway"

How is it possible for Subaru to have built an upgraded model that fails to perform on the same level as its lower trim?

Discuss.
Correction. If you were a rally racer, you'd buy an STi. Unlike the WRX, which has three open diffs, the STi has three limited slip diffs, including the DCCD. Like previously stated, the STi is also built with much stronger stock components, and the tunes are not the best from the factory. Of course, if you were a serious rally racer, you might be running the homologated JDM 2.0l engine that Subaru runs in their cars.
