Sorry for your family loss.

When you do heal, and look for your next best friend make sure to double check the breeder's reputation.

There is a reason why pure bred dogs cost more to insure, and that is because to keep the popular 'look' they are often inbred and lose a lot of their better genes.... thus making them a lot more prone to being in pain, falling ill and passing away prematurely.

Not meant to disrespect or anything of the sort, rather so you will not have to deal with this again before it's time.

Sorry for your loss. I too had to put my chow/mix down last april due to a stroke after 14 yrs. It was very difficult for my wife and I as well. The hated comming home and not getting the usual greeting. My wife and I were afraid to talk to one another about him cause it caused soo much pain. After 2 months I couldn't take the quiet any more so I told the wife I want another dog. She said OK but I want a Cairn Terrier. I said cool since there small lets get 2. So we now have a male and female 9 months old at this point. They will be going to be fixed next week.
Give yourself a bit of time and talk to your wife about getting another companion.

Molly
