I see a lot of that around here. Lot's of 30-something guys with gel-hardened, blonde-tipped hair and popped collars. Driving a leased BMW M3 or AMG like banshees on amphetamines. Revving to 6k RPM's in a 35MPH as they fly up on some minivan in 2nd gear then throw their hands up when they can't get around. You know people like this. They're the same ones that can't maintain cell phone service month-to-month and always have an excuse for why their phone got shut off.

Now I happen to like the sound of a M3 and AMG at 6k RPM. And I have nothing against spiked hair and popped collars. But don't be tool on the road! If you find yourself at a gas pump and you don't have anything nice to say to your fellow travelers, KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!

I'm wondering how to properly respond to people like this. Yes the mature thing to do is to ignore them, but sometimes it's fun to mess around with them.

I have a friend like that. One time he came over to my place, and took a look at my DVD collection (100+) and said "my collection is much larger". I mean WTF? I didn't realize that the size of one's DVD collection is even worth mentioning. Anyway this guy has an M3 and I don't associate myself with him any more, but if I were to bump into him, I wonder if there is a clever retort to say to him should he claim that his M3 is "better" than my 2011 Shelby GT500 (that I am picking up next year)?

A different friend had modded his Civic, and when I told him how the 2011 Shelby GT500 lapped VIR faster than the Audi R8 V10, he said that his turbo-charged Civic could keep up with the Shelby. I politely said nothing, as it's not my intent to diss someone else's car, but I'd rather prefer to speak up in an informative and diplomatic manner.

So assuming someone comes up to me and claims their car is better than mine, when it clearly is not, what do you suggest I say that is both informative and diplomatic? Should I say "actually the Shelby lapped VIR faster than the M3 by 7 seconds and faster than the Audi R8 V10 by 2s"? Is that okay without making me a douche?

Only issue I see with this Rez: You assume people that act in this manner know what VIR is

There are some extremely fast civics out there that would have no problem "keeping up" with your soon-to-be-Shelby. I don't know if you're just referring to his civic, or civics in general when you imply that your Shelby is so much faster. You looking down on the Civic is no different than the M3 driver looking down on your Shelby. How ironic...

I drive an M5 and I look down on nobody...it's a car. People need to quit thinking of these things as four wheeled penile extensions and get on with their lives. Seriously: Worry about yourself, not what the guy next to you is driving ...unless you are lined up on a racetrack!

Well, it is different, since Shelby>M3, and Anything>Civic.........

J\k, anyway he was just stated an example of a friend that happened to have a civic. "No ricers were harmed in the creation of this thread".

To quote a recent song writer, "God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy!" How true is that.
