Don't hold your breath waiting. If they didn't bring back the Firebird along side the Camaro, I doubt they're going to do anything with lesser known names.

Absolutely not going to happen. Emissions and CAFE will see to that. Big blocks are dead, more or less replaced with forced induction. And carbs are even deader. Heck, even port-fuel injection is on its way out now, getting replaced with direct injection. Electronic control systems are here to stay as well, and with most performance cars you can turn off the traction control and stability control.

And for all the advocates of the 'striped down muscle car', are you forgetting that the most popular Camaro is the 2SS meanwhile the least popular is the 1SS. RS cars are twice as common as non-RS. Tons of people have demanding that the Camaro have a nav system, while those that want a bare bones car are few and far between. The numbers simply aren't there for GM to even consider doing it, let alone justify it.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize this was a fantasy thread. Afterall, there wasn't any 'look, I know this can't happen but ... " sort of line in your original post. And there are people out there that want stripped down, back to basics muscle cars and think automakers could sell tons of them. So its pretty easy for me to figure you were asking an honest question and wanted honest opinions.

Now that thats out of the way, GM should build a RWD variant of the Cruze. Give it an LS3. Eliminate practically every option and feature from the car besides ABS and power windows, offer it only in manual only, and sell it for $15k. Call it the Chevy III.

If you really think about it if you have a 30k car think about how much of that cost is garbage stuff like XM, dual climate control, the stuff that you could really live without, I mean can probably find a dozen things that arent needed. I will not lie, power windows, locks, and AC I love and wouldnt go without.

Lesson learned from Honda and Toyota: Make trim levels, make cars with limited option combinations, and it will keep production costs low and quality levels high.

Trust me when I tell you: your $30k Camaro would cost $35k or more if XM radio, OnStar, and power everything were optional.

The reason is that everything in a car is now assembled as sub-assemblies, off site of the factory, before being assembled as one car in the factory. The dashboard, for example, arrives to Oshawa as one piece, instead of everything in it being put together, piece by piece, in the factory on the line like it used to be.

So, the dash is just lined up, all the harness connections are made, and it's bolted in.

If there were cars with and without all the myriad of electronics that you would like to see optional, it would increase the cost of building the different dash boards and force them to have multiple stock piles of them (instead of two: V6 and V8).

Building a car today is NOT like the old days, where you could pick and choose your options like a buffet.
