I think if they compared the 2011 GT500 to the 2011 GS Vette it would sway back into the Corvettes favor. The 2011 GS gets better tires and the magnetic ride control suspension.

The driver praised the "balance" of the Mustang and said he believed it would beat a Camaro around the track. Do we have track times comparing the Camaro to the the 2011 Mustang GT? All I can find is 1/4 mile times.
Road and track did a track comparison between the 2010 or 11 Camaro Vs. the 2011 Mustang GT. suprisingly the mustang gt was only .1 of a sec faster than the camaro on the road course. Basicly while the mustang had higher corner speed, the camaro low end torque had the advantage when coming out of corners. That the summary. So despite the camaro's understeer they are about on par as far as lap times. I am at work right now so I can't link it, so just google it or go to roadandtrack.com

Price as tested $68,365 .................................................. .........$55,537

$ for $ the GT500 is the better car.

Drop the ~$13K difference into the GT500 and it will spank the Vette all day long in any scenario.

I'm with you on this one. They just gotta do something to sell rags i guess. Even if it means dishing out the dumbest bs you can find.

R&T is a little pissy towards the Corvette because they want a new body style. Realistically, the GT500 is at the apex of it's performance, while the Corvette has tons of room to do more. True track enthusiasts would never think of showing up at the track completely stock, so stock comparisons are just for fat old men to argue at the country club.

The 3,800lbs is its maxed out weight. Car and Drivers 2011 GT500 PP test car weighed in at 3,751lbs before it hit the track when it pulled 4.1 0-60 and 12.4 in the 1/4 and in the test above showed a huge mph advantage going to the GT500. 119mph is good for mid-high 11's vs 116.5mph for the vette, and Evan Smith just ran a 12.0 in the Florida heat.

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...t500-road_test

If I did want a 2 seater track superstar it would definitely be the vette but I would probably wait for the C7, for me I'm more into drag racing and running low 11's stock on stickys and 10's with a pulley and tune thanks to it fully forged engine, and then when im bored i'll hit Thunder Hill Raceway with my family members that have c5 zo6 and a viper.

Evan said he believed the 2011 would be 2 to 3 tenths faster than the 2010 he tested(11.9s @ 120+), if the conditions were optimal.

But a 12.02 @ 119.9mph is nothing to sneeze at.

I think that's not possible. The 2011 GT tracks the same time as the M3 according to the motortrend test with the same racecar driver. That means it should lap VIR around 3:05, which is the lap time of the M3, which trounces the 3:09 lap time of the Camaro. The 2011 Shelby 2011 does the VIR lap in 2:58 which is faster than the Audi R8 V10.

The 'vette wins or ties in every category except lateral acceleration. Guess who they picked as the winner? The GT500 of course! What a load of crap!
another category it lost in.... PRICE as tested. nearly$13K difference is quite substantial.

Typically with higher priced sports cars I expect better performance.

just sayin'

Both are great cars.

and that isn't some ricer comparison, Notice I didn't say drop 13K in the GT500. I am simply stating that the price is a major factor when buying a car.

And the fact can't be argued. The GT500 is 13K less. And that is big difference.

Seems like the only people here who believe that R&T was correct in their "WIN..." are the ones who own an effin Mustang. I'll put my Z51 up against any GT500 and roll away smiling like Chessie Cat as the Mustang loses.

The insanity of some one saying that a GT500 is a better car due to it weighing so much yet is able to perform NEAR the Vette's atmosphere is just that.. INSANE. The GT500 has 120 MORE HP under the hood.. why is that not mentioned?

Hell.. we could use the same argument about the GT500 if it went up against my heavier, by 400lbs, Cadillac that has only 6 more HP and whips the *** outta the Mustang.

Stick to wrestling Camaros SS, GT500 owners, U have a 130HP advantage over them and your numbers still barely "WIN" in that situation.
