Here's something i've heard done before, and it actually works. Go to a police station and ask for a cop or two to take him into the station. Tell them to come into the class and handcuff him in front of everyone. take him into a holding cell and have his parents pick him up. Of course the school and parents have to be involved/participate.

There are always bad apples in society.. He sounds like he is a bad apple, and on his way to being pure rotten.

The problem is that in today's youth, we have more bad apples per bag.

One thing you might try: He wants to be funny man right.. Find a few prominent comedians, and actors that are widely accepted as funny. Do research on them. Find examples of their intellect and where that wit is derived from. You will probably learn that many of the funny guys on the big screen and up on stage, are quite smart. Then provide the info to this guy. Maybe it will open his eyes, that being an asshole and a disturbance is the opposite of "funny".

It could be a police matter now that he's threatened your property. When I was in high school, we had a police officer on campus. Do you?

The things that kids used to do to teachers and their cars but i think even those kids should have respect for the camaro and mustang not to **** with them cause most owners would go kick their ass.

Yes there are cameras in the teachers’ parking lot, and since I am normally the first or second teacher at school in the morning, I always park in the front row--so the camera has a clear view. That's not why I get there early, but it is an added benefit.

BTY, Aren't parents held legally responsible for their childrens behavior if their under 18??

I got rid of my 'beater' when it stopped getting me from point A to point B. That is why I got Bumblebee. I can't let one kid take away one of my favorite things to do. The only place I drive is to school and back -- and now I take the long way just to enjoy my car a little longer. No I won't let him or any other person, kid or adult, take that away from me.

Yes, parents are legally responsible, but that doesn't mean they are actually responsible. Don't get me wrong; in my ten years of teaching, I have rarely come across a kid like this or a parent like this. I hear stories from other teachers, but I realize I am blessed not to have to deal with it on a regular basis.

Trust me I won't let this kid win, or even think he won. That will just teach him that his tactics work and he will use them over and over again. I did file a report with our school administration and our school police officer, so it is on file if anything does happen. Hopefully it doesn't come to that, but I am prepared if it does.

I am hoping the Dean's can get through to this student, so he stops his behavior issues, and can be successful in class and Bumblebee can stay safe. I would prefer that over going though all of the steps of the discipline model.

As I said in my original post, even good kids can have bad days. Let's hope he used up all his bad days, and only the good ones are ahead of him.

He is most likely just screwing with your head. But if he has the balls to say that to you, then i think your right to worry (that is unless you are a push over teacher to start with, no disrespect at all).
im in 2 AP classes and i might be one of those "good kids" you were talking about but ive been affiliated with some raunchy ones in the past. The most i would suspect would be an egging, but juding that they are taking an AP class id say that a keying would be out of the picture.....

So honestly, if he threatens your car again, pull him to the side and say that you will be getting the police involved if he dont shut his trap. That should shut him up hopefully. Oh, and try to park near security cameras!!

Do you by chance have a school resource officer? If you do, he or she should be notified. He or she might be able to put some fear in him.

It's definately referral time (document everything). Hopefully administration can deal with the student, but you know how that usually works.

Good luck

Sad, but parents don't 'have' to raise their kids anymore...others do and then hear it from them when they try to discipline the kid. But, you must let him know that you are not intimidated. Too many adults have let him get away with this behavior along the way...negative reinforcement.
PS- I teach Psych and Soc at a local community college...you go!!!!

Welcome to the club. I taught High School for many years, and received similar threats from students. The "union" and the administration are of no help, at least not here. They responded with: "we are not responsible for damage to your car", and they would not discipline the students, since it would harm their records and make the school look bad if it were known students were making threats. Those caught with drugs were simply let go, no call to the cops.

All of our schools have County Deputies as Resource Officers. Here they take any and all threats very serious.
