Plus GM has had a rear engine car, and a mid engine car.
Corvair was the rear engine design and I believe GM pulled the Fiero because it was starting to out handle the corvette.

Driver position has nothing to do with it. Its the engine, relative to the axles that dictates whether its front, mid, or rear engined.
