Cost of living is relatively low, although property taxes are too high (of course, which tax isn't too high?). Although, if you get outside the city limits, it's even better.

Employment is varied....lots of small companies, plenty of big ones (ConAgra Foods, Union Pacific, Blue Cross, Mutual of Omaha (yes, the Wild Kingdom people), Level 3, Kiewit Construction, UPS, etc, and plenty of middle sized companies as well.

Best zoo in the country, College World Series is here every year (if you like baseball...I don't), and the Cox Classic is here as well (if you like golf...I don't).

Good medical facilities (another set of good employers) and the biggest draw, the schools. If you want your kids to get a good education, Nebraska consistently ranks high in the school systems.

A couple drag strips less than an hour away. Mid America Motorplex is 15 minutes south of here...they run lots of SCCA stuff out there, Porsche Club has one of their weekend deals there, so does the Viper Club (of course, it helps that Woodhouse, the largest Viper dealer in the world, is here). They also have some open-to-the-public weekends (for a fee of course).

Casinos across the river in Iowa...lots of fishing/boating/water sports spots at varying distances (from 10 minutes to a couple hours....5 hours to the Ozarks, etc), plenty of golfing too.

With I-80 running East/West and I-29 running North/South right here, driving is great...3 hours to Des Moines/Kansas City, 5-6 hours to Minneapolis, 8 hours to Chicago/St Louis, about 10 hours to Denver. Our Airport is big enough for service, but not too busy, so flying times are less than an hour to KC/Chicago, 2 hours to Denver/Houston, a little over 2 hours to Phoenix/Vegas, etc.

More importantly, within a 30 minute drive, there are a dozen Chevy dealers, all wanting to outsell the other guy, so getting a deal on the new Camaro will be easy enough.
I was Born and raised in Ralson and I could not stand the smell of the Stock yards, are they still there? My Family sill lives in Omaha, same street for 4 generations. (Castlar and dodge) oh and the AKSARBEN stadium was cool.
(Yes they names a stadium as the states name spelled backwards)

I could not move out fast enough. the Winter are long and fricken cold, we moved out on January 1974 in the middle of the worst blizzard in 50 years 8-9 ft snow drifts

Hehe.

I grew up in Florida, but lived in Virginia for the last 10 years. I miss Florida at times but I'm pretty certain I won't move back. I miss the storms (I love extreme weather for some reason) but not the bugs/heat/humidity.

Virginia has plenty going for it, except the communism that we have for a state government. I'm really considering moving on to North Carolina. I have family there, and my new girl is there...if she can't move up here I'd like to move down there. She wasn't the deciding factor though, I just love the climate and feel of NC AND Tennesse (my elementary years were in Knoxville, and I loved it).
Me too, Man, looks like we are following the same track.... We moved from Nebraska to Ft Lauderdale, FL Culture shock there...
then moved to Northern Virginia in 1996. We liked it back then but NOVA has got so bad with traffic and prices and yes the Communism, it has got so bad the last year with some of the most stupid laws. now it will cost you 1050.00 fine for not using your turn signal and it could cost as much as 3000.00 for going over 80 mph even on the highway that is posted 70mph.

I really want to move to Raleigh, NC I Love it there. The Cops race you and when they loose the give you a thumps up and go on there way they rock...

Well, they call it the Stockyards, but it's a business park now...I don't get over there much, so I'm not too sure what all is in there now.....I live in West O...Millard more specifically, and most of my stomping grounds are out West, the last few years, the Northwest....

Aksarben is pretty much gone...well, they still call that the Aksarben area, but the Aksarben stadium/horse track/hall/etc have all been torn down. UNO has a couple buildings there and a dorm or two. First Data built some stuff there, and then of course, the obiligatory strip shopping/retail stuff as well.

I believe that winter you speak of is still considered one of the worst ever....but, I was born in Feb. of '74, so I really couldn't say from my own experience.

So, knowing that we all are F-Body enthusiasts I visited Mytle Beach last week, and notice a considerable amount of Firebirds and Camaros. In fact, I drove my parents up the wall pointing them out. Well, maybe I did a little more than point them out. Besides, the weather is nice there, I highly doubt there is a winter there, and who doesn't like the beach. And if you like golf, it really is the place for you .

I used to point out, "Silverado" when I was younger. It was my Dream-truck. the "Legendary" Silverado. Then I started pointing out all GM vehicles. Which amazed my parents that I could recognise them all from so far away. And now, I only splatter myself against the window when I see an F-body, or a Vette. Of, course I point out Mustangs...however quietly...

FL is supposed to be the sunshine state!!! I've lived here in FL my whole life and I actually love it. I recently moved to Orlando from Boca Raton in south FL to go to college and this 3 hr move was a shock for me, gently sloping hills, 50 degree winters!!! LOL

I've never actually been to another state in the summer so I'm used to the humidity and dont even notice it, but it sure gets hotter in central FL than by the coast. I would never choose Orlando to live in if I wasn't going to school here because the traffic is horrid and there are soooo many people just EVERYWHERE.

If I were to move anywhere, I would deff go to NC. The 2 times I've been there I loved it and would have no problem living there. I've been to San Antonio twice, in the winter, and froze! haha I liked it there too. I have some family that lives in Spring Branch I think it is and its very nice there.

We have our share of -20 degree winters. -10 is common. Now that's cold.

How about going from 114 F during the day to 18 degrees that night. At least you have consistant weather.

Walnut Creek, Clayton, and Concord (15 minutes east of Oakland, Berkeley, etc.) was such a pain.

True story. It's one of the biggest secrets in the state right now. It's boggling my mind that it's not national news, but I guess that's because the fines ONLY APPLY TO RESIDENTS OF VIRGINIA.

So a MD driver (the worst of any I've seen in my travels) can be raping every law imaginable and just get little tickets here and there.

A VA resident can not use his turn signal and get the $1050 fine stated above, it's unfortunately very true. It's the daily hot topic here in my office. It was coined "civil penalties" and they didn't tell us about it until literally the week it went to legislation. Then to counter the backlash they (Gov & company) said it was designed for "repeat offenders"...but oops, they left the part out of the bill (we printed the whole ****ing thing out and read it over the course of 3 days in here) that protects a first-time offender. The initial penalty is only part of the story, there's a lot more to it...including having an R-rated movie visible from outside the vehicle costing you $1300 or so over the course of 3 years.
