She's the one I don't spank my kids in front of.... You just never know...

I just refuse to raise a kid that can't deal with a little dirt in the mouth..

sorry i can't help it. but this is f'ing so true to life. your doing it right.

Overshadowing all that is the "nanny state knows what's best for you" solution to everything. Sadly, most people buy into this to one degree or another. Even here, most people would say "the government HAD to bail out GM, it was for the greater good."

No one is allowed to "fail" in the nanny state. Just ratchet that down to the individual level and it plays out in how children are raised. Every law, every regulation, every PC program foisted upon the American people is billed as "for the children" or "the greater good".
sad...but very ture.

I never even SAW a bicycle helmet until high school.
There was 1 kid's mom wouldn't let him ride unless he had it on.
Yep... he was labeled a nerd.

And Head to Head Football was awesome!

Or this....

That was about as high tech as it got in my house.

Anyone remember "party line" phones? Yeah, we had that too and had to wait until the neighbor got off the phone to use it. As kids, we would eavesdrop on our neighbors, make noises on the phone, fun stuff.

People think this change has happened in the last 40 years, but really, its only been the last 10 to 15 years. I'm only 24, and I'm even finding myself having "in my day" thoughts. I guess I was lucky enough to be among the last that went through elementary school just before video games starting taking over kids' lives. (My first experience with a computer was during the Apple II days). I remember actually going outdoors and doing things with friends. Had I been born 5 years later, things might have been different.

At the school I went to growing up, the "playground" for grades 4 and above was the church's asphalt parking lot. We still managed to find an amazing number of different ways to fall down on it though. Then when the winter came, we had the snow pile. They don't let kids climb on that anymore.

I put at least 1000 miles on the bicycle every summer getting to places I wanted to go. I generally didn't get a ride....and that was better, because getting a ride required asking and waiting for someone else. You're were on you're own time when you're on a bicycle. It's a shame that more kids today don't get that lesson on freedom.

Sheesh...I've depressed myself. If I'm this old now, what will I be like in 40 years?

Did anyone have a set of these? They were a lot of fun til you hit yourself with them Basically 2 giant marbles on strings you waved up and down and got them to hit each other at the top and bottom of their swing. They were called Clackers or click-clacks.

Mom and dad beat the crap outta me when I got a bad report card. I did most of the chores around the house.

Same bike I had.... AWESOME!
I wouldn't say Adult Swim is appropriate for children. He's talking about cartoons designed for young children rather than adolescent males.
