Yeah I get that when going to Costco gas for lawnmower. I did replace all my 2 stroke yard equip with elec and battery. I have a hellofatime trying to get them to start and run. Even electric chainsaws are enough I've cut up entire trees in the yard with them. Go through a few Oregon chainsaw blades doing so as sharpening them isn't my forte. As long as you don't pinch the blades or hit wire/nails you're fine. Or the elec motors go up in smoke in 1 second. I even got a small elec rototiller. Started by getting an electric screwdriver decades ago, now all my powered handtools are battery even impact drivers. I love my battery circular saw for small jobs! Just like a vehicle I think elec has it's place. Just like vehicles I don't think they are superior for heavyduty use but regular personal usage they are superior. Slowly I think in a decade half the new cars sold will be EVs because people will learn from their neighbors the advantages or BEV owners replacing their cars. My primary DD will be a BEV for the rest of my life.

Just to add....Well done! Safety first! Good job on putting the can on the actual ground to fill it! Always take cans out, do not fill them while in the vehicle.

My $.02.

Fuel vapor and 400Vdc…… what could go wrong?

Well, so much for Ultium, it was great while it lasted, I guess....

Historically, GM is known for having larger and more dense EV batteries than its competitors. Now, it’s following in the footsteps of Ford, which insists that a 200–300 mile range is more than adequate for most owners.

I attended The Battery Show - North America today and spoke with a buddy who is a director in GM’s EV business. He explained to me what is really going on.

Ultium is specifically a JV between GM and LG Chem. In addition, there are two battery plants named Ultium (Ohio and Tennessee). GM had also started using the Ultium name to apply to the BEV platform. The platform name part is being discontinued. The reason for that is that the same platforms will be receiving Ultium and non-Ultium batteries. A year or so ago GM entered into a JV with Samsung SDI to manufacture and use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries in some of GM’s vehicles. It would be super confusing to use Samsung SDI batteries in an Ultium platform, so they will stop referring to the vehicle platforms as Ultium. That would be like putting an LS in a Mustang. Oh..wait..

Anyway, he was unclear on whether they will still refer to the batteries from the Ohio and Tennessee plants as Ultium. He did say that the plants are still referred to as Ultium plants.

So GM will have at least two different battery types depending on the vehicles they are used in. Lower cost vehicles will get LFP batteries from the Samsung / GM JV. More premium and higher performing vehicles will get Ultium batteries. One nameplate can easily have both battery types as options. Just like today the lower cost Tesla Model 3 cars get LFP batteries from CATL. The higher priced and higher performing Model 3 cars get NMC batteries from Tesla’s gigafactories. Think of the LFP batteries as the V6 and the NMC batteries as the V8.

Another reason to avoid GM products: more and more of their core components being produced overseas.

Bring the g-d jobs back to America!!!! It’s bad enough my transmission was built in Mexico!!!!

Like with the LG batteries, the Samsung ones will be made in the US too.

GM should just sell a licensing and battery emblem/decal naming agreement with Duracell, Ray-O-Vac or EveryReady. Easier for the consumer to understand perhaps.

Or just use good ole AC Delco for battery names.

The batteries are being produced in the US. That’s part of the IRA bill. In order for an EV to qualify for the $7,500 incentive the batteries have to be built in North America. That’s why LG partnered with GM on the two Ultium plants in Ohio and Tennessee and why Samsung is partnering with GM to build batteries at a plant somewhere in the US. All of those plants are adding g-d jobs.
