BUT sometimes capitalization CAN be used quite effectively, like when you want to place emphasis on CERTAIN WORDS without having to use BOLD.

No, DOING THIS equals to using capital letters. Its only because MOST PEOPLE have TRAINED THEMSELVES to read things in CERTAIN WAYS that USING ALL CAPS has become associated with YELLING. LETTERS and WORDS are just SYMBOLS that we USE TO CONVEY a FEELING or IDEA.

THEY HAVE NO INHERENT MEANING.
