After seeing this I'm sure GM will be going over the Volt's system thoroughly. That way they can say (with confidence) 'Well, OUR electric vehicle can stop just fine...'

That would be fantastic if Toyota was criminally charged as negligent or something to that effect. Involuntary Manslaughter? Knowingly compromising the safety of others....

hmmmmm.....

Actually, this is an entirely separate issue. Woz's was with the car accelerating on it's own, even under cruise control. This one is the breaks not working for a second when you're on slick or rough surfaces (you know, when you need them most).

So basically Toyota's got 3 safety issues going at once. The part that amazes me most is their reluctance to do anything about it. Woz has been hitting on them for months about it to no avail. Toyota confirmed the break issue but is still pondering if they should do a recall. How the hell is that something to even think about? There's a confirmed safety issue with a known fix that they've applied to other cars... what do you do about the ones on the road already? RECALL! Fricken idiots running the show over there.

"Copycat Engineering" is nothing new...GM and every other Brand practises it...

1940s-50s V-Dub = 1960 Corvair = 1971 Vega (GM declined to go there in the early-'50s BEFORE VW got a toehold...)

1958 T-Bird (revised '61) = 1963 Riv/'66 Toronado/'67 Eldo (sadly, ALL of them are gone...)

1960 Falcon = 1962 Chevy II/Nova

1962 Fairlane = 1964 Chevelle (wouldn't a G8 with a bowtie make a great Chevelle?)

1964.5 Mustang = 1967 Camaro/Firebird (Mustang uninterrupted, Camaro not-so)

1969 Corolla = 1976 Chevette

1973 Civic = 1982 J-Cars...and then 1987 Sprint (Jap-built by GM affiliate Suzuki)

1977 Accord = 1980 X-Cars...and 1982 A-Cars (and they almost got the X-car right...)

Hyundai Accent = Aveo (also Korean-built initially by GM acquisition Daewoo)

It's nothing new for someone else to carve out a "market" and have others follow...

How long did it take GM to build an extended cab pickup? 15 years after Ford? Even Dodge went there before GM. The Jimmy/Blazer followed the Bronco...

At least the Suburban was relatively "new"... in the '30's...

And the Corvette was an answer to returning WWII/Marshall Plan GI's bringing their Brit sportscars home...and wanting replacements...

...and the Model T was made by WHO?

Let me tell you that this is no joke. My parents bought a 2010 prius about 5 months ago. I have first handed experienced this problem driving the car. When coming to a stop from about 40mph the car just quit stopping, I slammed the brake pedal to the floor and after a second the car jerked to a stop almost sending me through the windshield. My Dad had been complaining about this too for a couple months and wound up rolling into the street from an angled driveway. They want to trade the piece of junk in, but now with the gas pedal scare and this recall I bet the resale is shot to hell. I tried to warn them.
