LT1 w/manual transmission and you'd have me. This car has really grown on me.

Not really impressed with the design, I think a new LTZ Malibu has a better looking front end although similar. Only positive is the motor and I do like the interiors in the new GM's. No 4wd option is a failure. Overpriced, for that kind of money you can get yourself a very nice used vehicle that will hold its resale better, better interior materials and have 4wd for winter like when we have inches and inches of snow on the ground like now. IMHO. I do like what GM did with the styling of the impala.

How about if it had the all-new 8-Speed automatic that will be in the 2015 Corvette?

The LT1 would have been great but on such a limited model as this I understand why it doesn't.

I'm just glad that the SS got the LS3. The VF Commodore SS V top engine is the 6.0L L77 V8

Quote:
L77 engines were released in the Holden Commodore Series II VE range in both manual and automatic transmissions, along with the Chevrolet Caprice police car. The L77 is similar to the L76 6.0L that was previously offered in North America in the Pontiac G8 GT; and the L76 is derived from the LS2 6.0L that was offered in the Pontiac GTO and 2005-07 Chevrolet Corvette. The L76 differed from the LS2 with its inclusion of Active Fuel Management (AFM) cylinder deactivation technology. The L77 retains AFM and adds FlexFuel capability, allowing it to run on E85 ethanol. The L77 is rated at 361 horsepower (269 kW) and 385 lb.-ft. of torque.
The LS3 is exclusive to the U.S. market SS.

The manual the VF Commodore uses is the T-56 that was found in VE Commodore.

The VF Commodore doesn't have any AWD options. They are all RWD, that right there eliminated the SS of having a AWD option.

I wouldn't compare it to what you can buy used. That can be said for pretty much any car. I wouldn't say it's overpriced either, starting at $44k. This car is in a 400+ hp RWD non luxury sedan class. Has anyone really looked to see how many cars are in that category? Last time I checked only 3:

Chrysler 300 SRT8
470 hp
$48,900

Hyundai Genesis R-Spec
429hp
$48,320

SRT Charger
470hp
$47,475

I think the SS will hold its value pretty good. Just look at the prices of the automatic Pontiac G8 GXP's and see how much they still go for. The SS will be a 2 year tops model, and the last of Aussie made Holdens brought to the U.S.

On a side note, do AWD cars really sell a lot where you live? Here in TN we MIGHT get 1-2 inches of snow for the whole winter, and that quickly melts by the next day. Our need for AWD cars is not as great as the Northern and Eastern states. Is Subaru a top seller?

Here in the burbs of Chicago lots of Folks with 4wd/all wheel drive sedans. Mostly front wheel or all wheel. There are only a few cars in the class because you limited the qualifications. Lower the HP rating, include Awd, include used and account for things like higher quality materials, quicker and better traction in wet and snow and the options increase. Give me a used Audi S6 over this SS any day for the same price.

The problem with this is all of those car look good, the SS doesn't IMO. I think the SS should be in the 36-38K range, that would make it much more appealing.

Why do you think the SS should be mid 30's range but the other cars are ok at high 40's ?

Personally I like the Buick Regal GS more, not so much the engine as its only a 2.0 Turbo but the shape of the car is far better looking than this SS in my opinion, less back seat space but I seldom have users or items back there anyways. Its available in 4wd in 2014 now too. Never would have thought I liked a Buick but I do and wouldn't be ashamed to own it.

Based on what a lot of people on here have said for a year now, the answer would be "YES".

The AT wouldn't be so bad if I could afford this AND my MT Camaro. Maybe the 8 speed w/LT1 efficiency would help get rid of the gas guzzler tax? There's nothing like shifting gears but I understand the appeal of an automatic for the majority of the population.

I don't mind the name being SS, but I wish the grill had an SS logo instead of the nasty yellow bow tie. The chevy logo is what makes this car look like a rental car.
