I spent the morning with Chrysler engineers at our track and a '15 SRT 392. A Hellcat scheduled to be here puked its power steering. The numbers they told me they achieved with the Hellcat Charger are really going to surprise people.

I can tell you this much, driving the SRT 392 on a road course was actually very fun. Yes it is heavy, but it never feels like it works against you.The handling is very neutral, and pushes slightly on entry, but can be nudged to oversteer with lift throttle or a brake squeeze at the right time. Throttle induced oversteer is very easy to control and modulate as I was able to hold a long slide through consecutive right-left-right turns.

I was impressed with the brakes as well. 15.4" two piece rotors on front with 6 piston calipers and 4 pots out back. The prototype I drove did not even have the adjustable suspension, just a slightly softer setup than the stiffest setting. The auto trans will upshift and downshift smartly and quickly.

To quote "This is the car no one asked for, but we did it anyway!"

So it appears the Hellcat can take a few turns. Impressive! I'm just curious at the skill level of the CTS-V owner. Will definitely be interesting once Randy Pobst gets his hands on the Hellcat!

After spending the day with the engineers on this program it is very apparent they know the limitations of the platform they have. The Z/28 was mentioned, but only in the context of knowing they could not do that type of car. As a matter of fact, they said at a early planning meeting for the Hellcat, someone said to build the baddest track car possible, but it was quickly shot down.

They did a nice job. My questions regarding the 'Cuda were met with pained looks. When I said to them, "That was a Plymouth name plate, I know, but just the same enthusiasts would love to see it back". They agreed, its a Plymouth name, and Plymouth no longer exists.

Yeah, they aren't able to put them on from the factory due to regulations and internal Chrysler rules, etc, but the fender lips have been rolled and the entire rear wheelhouse has been modified on all Challengers to accept 305's IIRC.

The initial consumer production batch is moving down the line right now. I'm guessing sometime around mid November they'll be in driveways.

Cool. Any idea if the 2015 Hellcat Challenger's are sold out? I thought I read somewhere that Dodge isn't limiting production on them?
