Good luck you CAN do! If it was easy everyone would do it.

I am struggling here but not giving up. It has been a very busy work week & it has proven hard to make it to my dance/cardio class after work. I went early in Monday & managed to catch the end of a weight training class before mine. Then Wed I was like 20 min late getting to class, but went anyway. Today, I was running late again & did not make it to class. I am feeling frustrated as scheduling of the classes is so tight with my work schedule, and I am not seeing much progress.

I know there is room for more improvement in my diet and I am working on that. I know I need to add some more exercise on Tu-Th but by the time I get home it is between 6:30 & 7 & I still have computer work to do. Most of the time by the time I'm done it is already past my bed time. I cannot get up earlier as I am getting minimal sleep now. I will keep at it & continue to find ways to add activity in my day. I take walks when I can catch a break at work or do short bursts of calf raises or other exercises I can do in the office.

Glad to see some folks joining the thread. It is always good to have others to support & push you. Let's get this done!

Your still keeping yourself active even with a tight schedule which is awesome! For me personally I reflect on what my day will be like and consider my diet. If I know I'm going to have a busy day and no time for cardio or workouts, I eat 3-400 calories less for the day, if I know I'm going to be sweating for 10 hours straight and burning tons of calories, I may eat a few hundred over normal. To me the big difference is not giving up and saying "screw it I already messed up today I'll just have a buffet tonight" and eat 5,000 calories because you couldn't exercise

I just found this thread. Very nice.
Last year, I underwent open heart surgery.
I am 40, 5'8" and 150 lbs.
My cardiologist did not suggest I lose weight but he said my diet needs a lot of improvement. I also started to get some cardio although not too much as suggested by my doctor. I have to keep it under 30 minutes and no more than 55% of my maximum heart rate.
I am still working on cutting down on my alcohol consumption which is a lot tougher than I expected.

Four mile in 50 minutes is awesome.

Just noticed this thread. It's cool to see all of your health tips/tricks and weight loss adventures.
I've always been a tall and skinny guy (currently 6' 3" @ 170 lbs). This is the weight I've maintained for about 8 years now. I don't have any secrets or real tips to contribute. I just consume plenty of water every day (about 2000+ mL daily) and run regularly (4 miles every other day). I don't follow any strict diets too. I eat pretty much anything I want but the portions are always small. Fast food is common for me but I don't eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
So....lots of water, regular cardio, and small food portions throughout the day. That's my "secret".

My secret since restarting weight watchers derivation on jan 1/15. Limited to 2k calories, 3x a week of hard 2hr basketball sessions and 6 small meals a day. Lost in past 100 lbs on ww but this time changing it up. So far, lost 15 lbs and needing another 25lbs. Averaging about a lb a week which is the right way to do it. Lots of water, no fries since started the diet, more salads and subway lean sandwiches. I do endure every once in a while but since I don't smoke or drink it makes it easier for me. I still drink diet coke no matter what experts say, it works for me.

Good luck everyone.

that diet coke is not working for you in a healthy way. It may be working for you in filling a need to taste it or crave it.

I'm getting FRUSTRATED!!!!! I have significantly increased my exercise & activity level & am being pretty good with my food intake but no progress. A lb or 2 down & back up, but overall stagnant! Plus my husband keeps tempting me bringing in my favorite treats (most recent was mint chocolate chip ice cream!). Plus my old joints are not enjoying getting active again. My knees & lower back hurt intermittently. At this point I am thinking as soon as we sell my lot, Aqualipo!

I'll just keep responding until you change or quit...

Until you ditch thinking you need a "class" and begin a structured, intense, free weight routine, combined with a structured intense cardio routine, you will never see the results you are wanting.

In addition your joints (speaking specifically about your knees) hurt because they are taking the brunt of the exercise you are doing vs muscles. Your low back hurts because it is weak.

How is a class not structured intense cardio? Have you seen the class I do? It is pretty intense. If my workouts are only drudgery & a PITA, I won't stick with it. Some of it has to be enjoyable & even a little fun. I also go to the track as much as I can & do sprint, walk, fast walk. I am not crazy about the machines.

I am not opposed to doing a structured intense free weight program but I don't know how to structure it. I don't want to get hurt. I would be willing to have you come help me now but honestly, I am a little bit scared of you. LOL. I am OLD. Not in bad shape for an old gal but I turn 58 at the Fest this year. I have past injuries & I don't want to get hurt while getting in shape. I am a little worried about continuing a free weight program on my own even if you come get me started because I was always taught (many years ago mind you) you needed training buddy to be there to sort of "spot" for you with free weights. I know, I am not going for power lifting super heavy weights, but you can have a muscle spasm of something & without someone there - injury. Right?

How do I know it's not intense? Wait for it.......

Because you are on a message board complaining about the lack of results. It is IMPOSSIBLE to truly put the work in and not experience a change.

The second highlight....

I'd encourage you to read this thread on another board I am a member of.

http://www.skatelogforum.com/forums/...ad.php?t=50268

And watch "rufusprime99's" journey and how he feels at the end of it. That is the "fun" part of it. How you feel when you get there. He is, if memory serves me correct, 54. Stop using your age and everything else as an excuse.

I am a teddy bear And truthfully I'd let Monique coach and structure you a workout. It's one thing to hear it from me.....it's another thing to hear it from someone who was obese and CHOSE to put the work in and make the journey.

Injury? There's always a chance when lifting, even with a spotter, you could get injured. And truthfully if you train hard enough, and for long enough, it's not a question of if but when. That's just part of it. I've had maybe half a dozen injuries in 27 years of lifting. You let it heal and start back up. There is also a big difference between between soreness and tightness vs being injured and not being able to lift. Don't confuse the two.

Offer stands...busy til end of the school year. Any weekend in the summer is fine.

We shall see then about the summer. I get pretty busy in the summer but not every weekend so maybe. In the meantime I may call a couple of personal trainers around here & just see how much it would cost to have someone get me started. I do know the difference between soreness and injury pain. Been to both places enough times. I'm not giving up, just frustrated.
