Monique is out of the walking boot as of today. She has been cleared to lift at up to 60% (although we won't be doing that on the squat or DL yet).

No running or jumping. Hopefully only 1 more month which would be phenomenal for an achilles surgery but she has been rehabbing like crazy. 2-3 hours a day and I really think it's paying off.

No real updates, I suppose. I mean, I had a little hip scoping done last September--debriding my destroyed labrum and shaving down a little extra bone--and the recovery has just been long. I walked out of the hospital that day, and haven't stopped moving ever since. No doubt that resuming movement as soon as possible has both helped my initial return to activity but dragged out my overall recovery. I'm still grinding through new scar tissue and old adhesions.

I'm still not comfortable with squatting, but I'm slowing ironing out all of the imbalances from years of hip impingement. I can finally lunge with my right leg forward, and managed to hit 325x1/leg, and 300x5/leg. So, there's that.

Awesome.

Goes to show different people are geared for different things. My box squat is about that and I STRUGGLE with a 135lb lunge lol. I can't begin to fathom doing a 315 lunge.

My lunge was atrocious before I had my impingement fixed. I'd jam up on the right side and my whole pelvis would shift to the left, causing me to get stuck on my left knee. Until then, my lunge was 225 onto the left and 135 onto the right haha.

How did you get your impingement fixed? Therapy or surgery?

My right shoulder is severely limiting my lifting potential. I have been using machines lately rather than free weights because of this, and on the chest presses I find myself not lifting as much as I can because of my right shoulder wanting to give out/ache with pain when I start putting on the weight. I can do 2 plates each side of a chest press machine just fine, I can even do 3 plates each side for about 3 sets/6-8 reps, but on that 3rd set my right shoulder just starts killing me. I'm afraid to go back to free weights or try maxing out. I've tried range of motion exercises, stretching, not much is helping.

So I measured my box the other day to see how high the 2 main heights I squat off is.

The "low" box is 15". The "high" box is 16.5"

I feel your pain. I have one in my left shoulder and have had it for years. I have just dealt with it.

I will tell you it started to get better when I used a lacrosse ball and dug it into my lats. Found it totally by accident one day when rolling out my back.

For me the "spot" was in the corner by your armpit where the lat ties into the teres major and deltoid.

Have you tried using a Swiss or football bar where the grip angle is different? They can make all the world of difference in pressing. A Duffalo (Not buffalo, Duffalo) bar's (although technically a straight bar) angles also make pressing easier than a regular bar because the wrist is at a different angle. I have a black widow multi grip bar and a Duffalo bar. They both have been shoulder savers.

Another idea to try (if you haven't) is using dumbbells. Sometimes not being locked in really helps also.

I ultimately had it fixed surgically, preceded by about a year with a REALLY good PT, whom I am continuing to see monthly about ten months later.
