Honestly I have not heard of memory loss with low carbs but I do know for a fact that too low carbs especially for a lengthy period of time is detrimental to your health and DECREASES fat loss. On top of that generally speaking, although when building muscle high protein is of the utmost importance but is also unhealthy in some respects. High protein diets when eaten without proper carb intake, water consumption and alkaline foods can cause negative effects on the liver, add alcohol to this and there can be catastrophic results.

I know I always say this and you are as if not more stubborn than me, your carb intake is much to low,be it for fat loss or muscle growth. it has probaly slowed your metabolism and is taking it's toll on you. Eat your friggin' carbs.

I may go back to pulsing them for a week or so and see what's what. I've honestly pretty much met my goal and have just been maintaining.

I'd think if something were amiss diet wise though I wouldn't still be increasing strength wise at the gym. I had a fantastic workout today and added reps over last week's.

I do agree the alcohol isn't the best thing to do and I should eliminate that altogether. I probably would have leaned out a lot faster if I had.

When your body is used to lifting your workouts may not be affected as quickly as other bodily functions.

You don't have to listen to me ,listen to your body, almost every week you have a post or two that pretty much verify carb intake is to low. Just because your still gainning doesn't mean your reaching potential, a perfect example is you build your motor and it runs strong, then you add a bigger cam and it runs stronger, now you do a gear change and it runs faster but the whole time your running low octane fuel, so you've made good gains but with proper fuel the gains are much more. Your body is no different.

One thing to remember when trying to drop body fat, if you look at almost any diet or even gimmick diet supliments they always suggest proper nutrition and exercise. Your body burns many more cals to substain muscle than fat or other tissue so in turn building muscle incinerates fat and you cannot buld muscle without protein and carbs, they go hand in hand. So you may be getting stronger and leaner but you're working your ass off to do it, you cannot acheive what you are trying to do without extremely hard work which there is no doubt you are doing, but equip yourself with the proper tools (ie diet) and the results will pay off .

Hello eveyone!!! Sorry I've been so absent, just trying to focus on other things (My new vette ) at this point, I've gotten used to my diet but to be honest it can be just down right miserable at times, so just keeping my workouts hardcore at the gym and eating the same foods i've been eating going on three months now, so talking about different foods that are good for you, is just too distracting since I just can't have most foods that are on the diet menu at this point......Boiled chicken, and lite salad, and eggwhites with a little oatmeal, along with a little nuts and a little fruit is about it for me everyday... so it will be much easier for me to get back in here in the offseason and talk about recipies and different diet ideas, along with workouts, so big hugs to everyone and can't wait to share my upcoming photos from competition! Less than 2 weeks away now!

I don't think you're meant to feel "perfect" and get ultra lean CFD. Just comes with the territory.

I listen to the mirror more than my body in most cases unless something gets really out of whack and the mirror tells me I'm in the right spot and achieved my goal. I'm in better physical condition now than I was at 25.

I was curious about the memory thing and was curious how low carbs affected folks here that go to extremes like I do. I've been doing some reading today and found studies have been done and show this is to be expected. Without getting in to all the chemistry it has to do with reduced glucose available to the brain and it can affect short term memory. In short, it's normal.

Low carbs give me that buzzy feeling, but I just didn't remember the memory issue (haha). Not a huge deal, but something to be aware of for those doing it.

Off to have some cottage cheese, blue berries, and a hand full of almonds.

Believe me I know what you're talking about, when I was a bit younger I was totally ripped. Now at 56 I think I do pretty good but that need for single digit body fat numbers has diminished. Perhaps my idea and your idea of feeling perfect are different. Memory loss, dizziness, irritability are not feeling perfect to me.

Low glucose levels are inevidable when low carbing that's why I as well as many experts suggest fast acting carbs along with protein intake after and or before workouts, that way your body utilizes them to absorb the protein rather than storing them, if you are low carbing and don't eat some carbs to support your workouts how can you build muscle. I belive you should preserve muscle at all costs even if it means a little extra body fat. Obviously if you're in competition for those pre-contest times this doesn't apply but I don't think any bodybuilders take low carbing to the extremes of very low body fat levels continuously, it's usually pre contest only otherwise it will catch up to you and bite you in the ass, guaranteed, and I think it's nipping at your ass now but what do I know.

I was not aware that it affected memory, but maybe that's because of low carbing I forgot LOL>

I do have "some" carbs, the bulk of which are right after my workout with my protein and the rest at lunch.

I think it's just being below about 75gr a day where the other side effects kick in and I'm around 50gr.

Luckily I haven't been irritable this go around, but then again the alcohol probably takes the edge off at night and has helped me avoid that. I am cutting that back now as well, so we'll see how THAT goes haha.

I agree with ya that it's definitely not sustainable. I think pulse carbing is the best all around compromise and will go back to that eventually.

I have a suggestion for you and anyone else who may be interested. Several years ago I stumbled across an article by a guy named Tom Venuto, he is a bodybuilder who competes in the "all natural" competitions. I was very impressed by the article so did some research and found an e-book titled "Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle" much of the info I try to share here comes from this book as well as a body building forum I frequent. In his book are no magic methods or ground breaking new ideas but it is a very comprehensive book based on real data, science and proven methods. He is not big on suppliments or any of the hype around fat loss and body building. It is straight forward and full of no bull info. It contains everything from what to eat and how to workout and WHY. The first part of the book is motivational which I found boring but the rest is the best I have ever read, look into it and honestly if you purchase it you will not be dissapointed. It's everything you need to know.

Bonnie, no I didn't make it. It was the sister of our friend that made it ! She made it just for us !
Fun is what we do...of course, you can take a peek at more of our fun this past weekend on fb! Haha!!!

Pics from Somernights Powercruise - reward for hard work

Okay, the pics make it look like I am still neon white (hubby is not the best photographer) but I have gotten some tan on the long hidden tummy. Anyway, here are a few pics of me publicly wearing a 2 piece swim suit top for the first time in many years. I still have some work to do but I feel pretty good about how far I have come. I have lost about 50 lbs now!
