GM and Ford's EV's are good but we wanted something very nice, and Cadillac is not a brand we will consider. Our 2nd choice was the Rivian R1S but see also concerns about support and the company being around long enough to warranty it. BMW placed 1st because we've had a great experience with them in the past and they were an attractive lease deal, so the iX won the decision.

European here. Weirdly GM only offer mini EVs in Europe and Ford is limited to the Mustang that clearly isnt actually a Mustang at all.
This is fairly insane when 13% of all new car sales here are EVs.

Teslas are far an away the most popular probably followed by MG's as they are cheap, Kia are doing very well as they have some really interesting designs going on.
In premium cars Audis are probably most popular (I have an etron station wagon, my brother has a GT) as the BMW iXn's are ugly as sin but the more mainstream Beemers are selling well.

The RR Spectre also seems to be selling well despite costing $420K in basic spec.

Hey now. lol. We enjoy ours but we understand the looks aren't for everybody. It's roomy inside like a full-size SUV.

Not sure about Europe but iX's are expensive in the US so there aren't that many of them. I don't think the BMW EV sedans do as well here because of the overall preference for utes in the US. We liked the i4 but I'm a tall guy, and it wasn't happening. Can't fit in the 3 series or 4 series either, we were very surprised. I'm 6'3 and change.

Kind of what's been talked about. We're a handful of days from the close of Q2 and official numbers will post.

"EV's are selling well for everyone except Tesla".

Survey - 46% of US EV owners likely to switch back to ICE.

When almost half of your customers want to bail, that is a problem.

Not shocking given the high purchase price of EV's and lack of charging. Both of those things are rapidly changing, so the number of people wanting to switch back will keep going down. This isn't the smocking gun EV haters were hoping for.

You need to be certain of what the questions asked were and who was asked. Examples:

Audience: EV Owners
Question: Will your next purchase be an EV or something else

My answer would probably be Something Else. Because I already have an EV and don’t need two.

Audience: EV Owners
Question: When you dispose or trade your EV will you replace it with an EV or something else?

My answer would be an EV.

We track loyalty on a number of metrics in the industry. One of my colleagues is the recognized expert on consumer loyalty in the car industry and is often quoted by Automotive News, Bloomfield, WSJ, et cetera. These numbers are from his last presentation on EV loyalty.
  • 76% of Return to Market households who owned a Tesla bought another EV, 90% of those were another Tesla
  • For most Luxury brands the loyalty average is 44.0%
  • For mainstream brands the loyalty average is 51.4%
  • EV Loyalty has held in the 65 - 70% range for the past 6+ quarters
  • For EV owners in general that number is 68% (this would be the number to compare to the 46%. If 68% of EV households buy another EV, that means 32% don’t, not 46%)
  • There are two methodologies..Household and Disposal. Household means “bought one, then bought another” but does not detail whether the original one was kept or not. Disposal means “bought one, disposed of it and bought whatever”. 70.5% of the time the “whatever” is another EV.
  • For the Top 10 Metro areas for EV sales, the fuel type loyalty using Household method ranges from 87.9% (SF) to 61.4% (Miami)
  • For the Bottom 10 Metro areas for EV sales the EV loyalty rate ranges from 50.7% (Detroit) to 41.8% (Harlington, TX)

The two charts below highlight EV loyalty rates for Luxury brands and Mainstream brands using the Household method. That means there is no indication whether the original EV was kept or discarded. Just that the household bought and registered an EV, then the household bought another vehicle with no indication of whether or not they still had the first EV.

This has the potential to be HUGE. They each have problems. Rivian needs money. VW needs better software integration.

Hopefully some of that 5 billion will go toward a redesign of the Rivian front end

The interior is definitely very nice, its biggest advantage is that when youre in it you cant see the exterior

Our etron is my wifes car really, biggest reason for choosing it over the Teslas etc was that it actually looks pretty - the BMW wasnt available when we bought otherwise Id have definitely had a look, Ive got 2 already!

So true, it's absolutely awful. Worst design since the Nissan Juke.

We've had ICE Audis in the past and have always appreciated the brand. When it came to EV's, Audi was trailing the competition in range and max charge speeds. I was glad to hear they upped them for 2024.

I do like the wheels on that E-tron...similar or same to the ones on some of the S4's.

After last night the ICE future is bright!

My daughter and son in law bought an etron. They were looking to get rid of it within a year. They dont hate it but they dont like it better than the ICE SUV they owned before.
