The crowd lol...

I don't think a minor face lift is enough to justify buying a 2009 versus a 2010 anyway. The camaro really breaks the mold for me and I'm happy you guys are happy with mustangs becuase I still think their nice... Can't we turn around this camaro vs mustang into domestic vs import ... I am actually sick of my friends saying don't get one get a veedub... While I'm driving an audi... Or get a civic si... Or get a m3(albiet very nice)... They just don't turn me on like the maro... I'd rather have a mustang more than anything except the camaro ... W.e next year I'm going to buy a mustang anyway

20 yr old pushrod engine? its a little older than that. the reason we dont say anything about it is cus we dont need to. ford went to OHC design, GM stuck with OHV design for their v-8s. and GM continues to make more power N/A with our "20yr old" design. I understand where you are coming from with the SRA point, but our pushrods have rarely been anything but #1. case in point.... ZR1. 20yr old pushrod engine....

they put up a stiff defense because there arent a lot of them here. I'm not saying they should back down at all, just CALM down... on both sides really. I will say that I dont know everything about ford motors/mustangs/etc, and thats why I like having some of them on the boards. to DISCUSS things. but this whole conversation is a moot point.

esp not in this economy. 20 years ago or more, maybe. but not today.

Yeah, you know what, I was in a bad mood when I posted that yesterday, so I apologize for the attitude.:(

Back to the subject at hand, while I do think the 5.0L engine will make it's way back into a Mustang, I seriously doubt it will be the standard V8 offered in the GT. More likely, it will be featured as the mill in a special edition (i.e. Mach 1 or Boss). Will it make 400hp, it very well could, as there are already versions of the 5.0 modular engine making more than that level of power.

Yeah the Cammer 5.0 but that thing isnt even close to emissons legal. There is a Jag that has a 5.0 engine but its at 385 if I remember correctly. I think this will be the area the new one for the Mustang comes in at. No prob Garage eveyone has a bad day and is allowed to have a bad attitude, my wife says mine is everyday...lol.

I thought the "5.0" being considered for the '11 'Stang was supposed to be a brand new engine design...

Modular v8 isn't the same thing as a modded motor modular means that the engine block comes in more than one main part...

HOPEFULLY we see ford step up thier game I really want to see 5.0 it has such a nice ring to it and the aftermarket would probably support it.

This is so cool though I can't believe it... My best fried just bought a challenger srt8 last week ( came in over 60000 canadian though) with every possible option...!!! I can't wait for my camaro , no other car has ever had my heart like this!

It is a new engine but it's still in the modular "family". It's a 4 valve 5.0. It's not a bored or stroked 4.6, it's a completely new engine. And the 4.6 and 4.0 engines are going away. The 5.0 will be the new GT engine. Hope that clears things up.

No prob garage, It would be nice if there was a Mach 1 or Boss developed with a 5.0, may be the push necessary for GM to put the Z28 back on the table. You have to give Ford credit for its SVT division, hopefully GM's High Performance Vehicle Operations or something close to it will be reactivated soon.

the 'mod motor' name comes from its assembly. So they can design a completely new engine and it would still be a modular V8, aka mod motor.

But since we are talking about hypotheticals here . . . I'm surprised that nothing much has been said about GM's direct injection V8's that are down the road. The way I see it, GM will offer up their own version of the track pack, lower rear gear, suspension upgrade, and maybe a cold air intake or something so that it still stays ahead assuming that Ford shocks everyone with a 400/400 engine in a 3500lb Mustang. Then, a year or two later the gen V small block debuts.

I thought about it...but honestly? If GM's smart -- they won't use DI to improve HP like they did on the 3.6L. Given the looming mpg mandates, they'll focus it to improve efficiency and mpg. I mean, it's already f'n 25mpg. For the power, that's great -- but I'm thinking the workhorse of the next gen V8s will be a ~5.7L, 400hp, and 27-28mpg....hot damn.

I think they'll tune it for efficiency as well . . . I also think it will be producing a bit more power than that, a 5.7L making 450 hp with 27 mpg should be fairly straightforward. Or if they want to go out with a bang . . . 500+ hp out of a 6.2 @ 25 mpg. Not sure what would be more awesome.
