It may be the red-headed step child of the Mustang family, but it was still a Mustang. Despite what people think of the '74-'78 models, they were a pretty popular car in their day. In fact, Ford sold, not produced, 385,993 cars that first model year ('74). That's second all time in Mustang sales behind the twelve-month sales record of 418,812 units for the original Mustang.

The Mustang II also won Motor Trend's 1974 Car of the Year award, too. (Of course, that's not saying a whole lot as the Chevy Monza won the same award a year later.)

Off topic, but not really since we bring up the 74-78 mustang. Anyone know the reason(s) for the drastic design change of the 80s mustangs? That was a long lasting but weird design. I personally thought they were ugly, no offense but I was just wondering the reason behind that change.

Life is short dont be a hater

Well it is funny how things work out. I never planned on getting a Camaro but my wife loves them. I have always been a Mustang guy. But not anymore. My wife has a sweet RS and now I have an RS/SS and we love them. I all so own a honda sportbike and a Harley. My rules are if its fun have fun dont get stuck on the brand.

As a new Mustang owner I do resent one of you implying my GT is slower than most-all SUV's. I took it as a joke (this is your forum after all), but it is still horribly inacurate none-the-less.

Believe it or not, less than 1% of vehicles jeep sells are the Cherokee SRT.

In fact I believe the Honda CRV (4 cylinder civic engine mated to a really high ratio transmission) may be the best selling SUV in America. So yeah. The constant GT bashing may attribute to some very upset Mustang owners.

I love them both. Don't care if one is slightly faster than the other. Yes, I said slightly. In a world where a Audi R8 can jump to 60 in under 4 seconds, the .4-.9 seconds difference between the GT and SS is slight considering that when comparing to one of these cars, it is roughly 200% different

yea your right..they brag and brag and brag that the camaro is slightly faster...but you would think all the time it tooks those idiots to come up with the car with a hundered more horsepower than the gt mustang ,that has been out forever,it would out perform it by a long shot.....BUT IT DOESNT...and guess what ford came out on top again THE 2011 STANG!!! and it didnt take them ten years to figure it out either...bottom line camaros will always be left in dust of the mustang no matter what:laug h:

Well I think that 6.2 liter engine leaves a LOT of room for improvement. Untapped potential. Even after Ford mputs the Coyote in the stang, its still losing on the displacement front.

Wow this guy must be 12 years old.

then he talks about us bragging. take a look at his posts.

we can not brag with a half second advantage. But he can brag with an unknown advantage(from the looks of it much less than half second). Mustang comes out on top again? when was the last time the GT came out on top? (1992?)as it stands now a 2010 gt cant beat a 4th gen....sorry pal. 10 years to figure it out? The concept debut in 2006. it has been 17 years since a mustang GT could beat a camaro z28 stock for stock. See...I can talk like an idiot also. I guess it took ford almost 2 decades to figure things out.

Look at the GT500....only running 12.8s in the quarter mile in all these tests. It is 10k more expensive and has over 100hp more. Its fun talking like a fool.

Get a life dude....I probably see 3-4 f you kids a week that register on here and act a fool. Or just re-register and troll it. Thats always classic. Or maybe you all ready have.

Personally I have no ill will towards Mustang or Challenger owners, why would I or anyone else feel that way? I think they are all three great looking cars and which one you buy is based on which car you like best.

One Mustang forum I checked out showed a picture of a Camaro in the rear view mirror with the comment "Camaro behind and following a Mustang, right where is should be". Which car you like the look of better is really a personal opinion, but how can the guys on the Mustang forum question the documented performance advantage the Camaro SS has over the Mustang GT?

Why the hostility?

Russ
I bought the camaro because it didn't look old and tired. The car is a rock star compared to the stock looking mustang. I mean good gosh. Park a stock mustang next to a stock camaro and you can see why they hate us.

It's SO true. The current body style Mustang (pre 2010/11) had been around for years, even the 2010 model doesn't look that different. But then you have the new Camaro out and there isn't anything around that looks like it.. Unless you're an idiot then you will say it looks like a Mustang / Charger / Challenger.

We're not all haters... I like the new Camaro and the new Challenger too.
First car was a Ford though, and I've had pretty good luck with Fords.
I like the "retro" ('05-'09) Mustangs better than other offerings right now... Yes, the new Camaro looks a bunch different, but not really better; at least not to my untrained eye.
