For those who don't know, I have never powerlifted in my life. Only sports, and bodybuilding workouts. I have now completed a month of my new powerlifting routine (With help from Mydivorcegift) And on Monday I already hit a new PR on Deadlift - 445lbs.

I have deadlifted 445lbs once before last year, but then I was using straps. Monday I did 445lbs completley raw, no straps, belt, or anything. Got it relatively slow but with no stops! Today I see if I am gonna hit a PR on Bench press.

I have absolutley fallen in love with these powerlifting workouts, and so far, I feel so much stronger already. I had multiple injuries last fall that really set me back strength wise and overall mentally and phsycially, but I believe powerlifting will have be back in no time, and I do NOT see myself switching back to bodybuilding workouts ever.

So to everyone hitting the gym today, Good luck!! Push some weight!
Awesome. I was thinking about you yesterday and was actually going to email you today. Glad I could help! How is the reading going? Done yet? It is very, very addictive.

I'm 2 weeks into CF. God I have a long way to go. Reps just absolutely kill me. And the hardest thing for me right now is overcoming the soreness....everywhere. I haven't been "muscle sore" in a very long time. Probably since I was a teenager. It's a totally different world but I'm enjoying a new adventure and supporting Monique's journey.

I am still adding workouts where I can. Haven't really been physically able to do 3x a day like I had envisioned. Probably be a few months before I can. But I'll just keep plugging along.

Yes I am about done, just 2012 and 13 remain! It really is a great read, and I love his mindset. Yeah now that I have a month done, variation each week, I am going to repeat the entire month cycle and see what kind of improvements I see. My grip has strengthend tremendously, lifting raw I just feel so much stronger. My recovery has improved greatly as well! Really excited to see what other results I make between Bench today and Squat Monday.

Three a days are very tough....I find it hard to find time for 2 a days, but making it work. How are you liking crossfit compared to your usual routines?

Awesome. Just remember, like he says, "when your body has all the answers you must change the questions". Keep this in mind on your journey. When something stops working, change.

Isn't that funny. The more you actually train, the more you recover. 99% of the world misses this and just can't comprehend it.

I hate it....I hate the reps. But one day I hope to love it like I've learned to love to squat when I use to hate it. But I do love the challenge and the competitiveness of CF. It's also nice to see and feel changes in my body and to learn "new" lifts for me that I've never done.

I think my partner hates me now...LOL. He was in a powerlifting meet this weekend and hit all new PR's on his lifts, so he was excited. Now it wasn't anything close to placing in the top three, but he's doing awesome. Anyway, he has always competed in the 208 weight class. And it's usually a pretty big class. So this year I talked him into going in the 231 class (he weighed in at 217 lbs). A jump for him, but he was able to keep the food and calories pouring in. Well, he placed fifth in the 231 class, but there was only three people this year in the 208, and he would of placed second. Doh!! Yeah, he was not happy about that, but I reminded him about all his PR's and made him feel good. It was the first time he pulled 505 lb in a contest, yeah, he did good.

Good for him! Is it a NASA contest? Odd weight classes why I was asking.

Still trying to dial in all my workouts. WOD at CF yesterday was work up to a heavy single in the front squat followed by a metcon for time which was 3 rounds of the deadlift combined with shoulder presses. 15/12/9 for the deadlift. 30,24,18 for the shoulder press.

Front squat worked up to a measly 275. I have a lot more from a squat aspect but I still struggle with holding the bar.

Prescribed weight for men was 315 for the dl and 135 for the shoulder presses but the worst part was you only got 1 bar to use so after the dl had to strip 2 plates from each side Managed to get through it though in 19:38.

Prescribed weight for women was 205/95. Monique did as prescribed and finished in 12:30. I told her the only reason she beat me is I had to strip an extra plate on each side

it was just a local meet my gym puts one at the beginning of the year. Not sanctioned by any group. Sad part was they "mysteriously" had a Masters Class. Never had it in the past, not on any flyers this year, not told to me by the owner (talk a lot about his events), not a word. But a 'friend/trainer' of the owner of the gym shows up with eight men, all over 40, and there is all of a sudden a Masters class. It was broken down into HW and LW Masters. And the most weight either of the classes had was just over 1000 lbs. I was surprised and shocked he would do that. But hey, the trainer of those guys placed 6 people with trophies, made him look damn good. I can see why I wasn't told, my totals are usually around 1650 lbs. I would of embarrassed his guys in a bad way. I guess politics are still everywhere...lol.

One bar for both lifts, too much time to remove and add. Yeah, I would not of cared for that at all. Man those are a lot of reps. I think I would need oxygen DURING the event.

Yes they are. One of the main factors why I stopped competing. Politics, the shit talking on message boards, the um "chemically enhanced" people competing in "natural" divisions for the sake of getting an f'n trophy, etc. The pl'ing sport as a whole needs a makeover and needs to fall under one umbrella IMHO.

But I still encourage newbies, like Rory, to give it a whirl. There's a lot of good training info out there and it is fun to become stronger!

Yes it was....it was painful lol.

Some strong mofo's in here for sure! My advice? Don't get old, lol. I've been SLOWLY getitng back into benching. I used to throw a lot of weight around, now not so much.

Went to the gym today not feeling so good. Took some C4 on an empty stomach hoping for some energy. All it did was make me super shaky and jittery. Oh well. Sucks because I felt great all week, and then today blah. Did 275x6 at 202lbs. Was hoping for 10 reps, but just one of those days where everything felt heavy, even the warm-up weight.
