Okay. I'm bored. And there's not much happening on the Pac NW forums. I have one of those "Is it just me..." sort of questions. And since there are so many wonderful ladies here; maybe I can get some inteligent feedback. My question is: What is it with women driving Gen 5s? All the women here seem to really appreciate what they are driving, know something about their cars, and really enjoy driving them. Yet so often I encounter what I experienced today.
I was on my way home from work when I spotted a black SS at the light ahead of me. I caught up with it and could see the woman driving. I wound up following her half way across town, the whole way watching to see if she noticed the Synergy in her rearview. When we came to the intersection where I had to turn, I punched it in the turn lane to get next to her before our paths diverged. Nuthin'. No wave, no nod of acknowledgement, not even a smile. Oh well. It happens.:(
Not even a quarter mile after my turn, I spot another SGM coming right towards me. It just had it's fogs on, so I shut of my DRLs and went to fogs to draw attention. I had plenty of time, so I rolled down my window, stuck my arm way out, and gave a big friendly wave and a smile as we passed each other. Once again, after all that: Nothing.
Are there really that many women out there that are completely unaffected by what they have the daily privledge to drive? Don't get me wrong; I get this from men too. But I get the feeling they are just trying to look cool by acting aloof. With the women, I get the feeling that they just don't get it.
To them it's just a car that they look good driving. It seems as if it would make no difference if they were driving a Beemer, a Miata, or a Mustang. Am I reading way too much into this? Am I way off base? Do other people experience this?
I like the camraderie of the Camaro. I like making that connection with total strangers on the road when we exchange smiles and waves. It's like "They get it. They're having fun too."

With Envy, I know what you mean. If I see another Camaro on the road, I'll give a quick wave and invariably, the response is.... nothing. I don 't get it.

Here in LV, with the intense heat, everyone's windows are tinted so there's no way to tell if the driver ignoring me is a man or a woman, not that it especially matters.

But maybe the real difference between us and those other folks is passion, which I define as something that has chosen me, not the other way around. I have no other way to describe the things that I am inexplicably drawn to. I consider myself to be fortunate to have a few passions in my life (F-bodies and music have always been there). So maybe those people who are "in it but not of it," whom, as you've observed, "seem completely unaffected by the privledge..." are people without passion. How colorless and seasonless it must be. It makes me sad for them.

I'm glad that there are places like this to find camraderie (or should that be Camaro-raderie ) and making that connection and maybe find some new friends along the way - to be among people who actually "get it."

Gary, I ALWAYS wave at other Camaros... And if I happen to be next to one at a stoplight, I roll down the window and say "Hi" - even if I'm in my SUV! I've had people give me weird looks until I say "My other car is a Camaro...." You're just coming across the wrong people.

Good morning.Off for a run down the Coast Will see if can catch any waves Seriously always try to give a little wave/flash and usually get beat to it or returned. Sometimes you wonder if it's the bird and not a wave you are getting in return.

In the early days of the fifth generation Camaro I used to get waved at by ANY other Camaro driver. Not any more. About three months ago I was walking across campus with a guy from the College IT dept. We spotted a Victory Red Camaro in the parking lot. He told me he knew the owner and that she was on staff here at the college and that he would introduce me. He did just that when we got thru with our errand. However, she was headed to a meeting and could not talk more than a few seconds. I asked her if her Camaro was a 6 or an 8 because I had been too far across the parking lot from it to be able to tell. She said, and I quote, "Oh it's neither one, it's at least an 11, it has the BIG engine"! But, it's not just women. I've run into men who insist they have one "at home". And then they'll go on to tell me it has a 4 cylinder and that DODGE (!!!!) doesn't make a Camaro with a bigger engine. One guy at a car show would not believe me that my engine was 8 cylinders. He told me that when GM was "taken over" by the government Chevy was not allowed to put engines any larger than a 6 cylinder in the new Camaro because the Obama administration wants to increase gas milage on autos. I'm with HotRodSally, I think it's the passion component. That's part of the reason there are so many used fifth gen Camaros for sale. The folks that bought them really didn't know what they had and didn't care! I've quit asking every Camaro owner I meet to join C5 until I can tell whether they have the "passion". Good call HotRodSally.

Sally, Lightning, Sugar, and Jeanette,
I have to commend you on your astute observations and profound words. I wasn’t sure how my question would be received, last night when I posted it. But you all obviously understood better than I could have imagined.
Sally; you really hit the nail on the head with the word that inexplicably escaped me last night- Passion. That one simple word sums it up so well. Sometimes it feels a bit shallow to be so enamored with something, that when you really think about it, is nothing more than a means of transportation. An inanimate object made of steel and plastic. But when I think of all the unhappy people in the world who want to know why they are unhappy, I have to suspect that the answer for many of them lies in the fact that they have no passion for anything. In life, it is our passions that lead us to our joys. So in that vein I make no apologies for being passionate about my car. It makes me happy. And I intend to keep driving it with a smile on my face. Regardless if anyone waves back or not!
