You don't need to outrun the Motorola... you just need to outrun another car that sorta looks like yours!

So, to wrap this all up...
- Police officer accidentally nabs wrong guy. - A good Samaritan catches proof that he's the wrong guy on his dash cam, and explains to the officer that he got the wrong guy, and offered to bring him proof. - The police officer essentially tells the good Samaritan to F off, because he would rather destroy the life of an innocent man than admit to making a mistake. - The good Samaritan goes up the chain and refuses to back down, and so the officer is forced to recant and release the innocent man. - Meanwhile, the officer who has proven himself to be a dirtbag with zero integrity will keep his job and nothing will happen to him. |

UPDATE!:
Alright guys, So I went in and spoke, and gave, to the detective that Patrick George from jalopnik told me wanted to talk with me the footage I had and the pictures provided. (so long USB lol - forever lost lmao) showed him the footage and gave my statement and then asked me if i could write my own personal statement. I obliged, and went into a room to write my story down of the whole encounter in detail (3 pages long ... my hand hurts from writing!) In the middle of writing my statement, the officer who arrested the guy came in and apologized to me in regards to what was said, so that I greatly appreciate (thanks to Jalopnik and Patrick for getting this out there) I also overheard some things as I was writing my statement, due to the paper thin walls lol. But that I will not talk about. Lets just say, I said wow in my head as I was writing lol) After I wrote my statement, as I was leaving the detective told me thank you and that the charges would likely be dropped against the guy (sounded like he may still have been in custody? not sure). I then asked for the guys name as it is public record so I could get in contact with him and also provide my footage if he wanted it, and as he turned around to get it, he quickly turned back and said he couldn't as he hasn't been arraigned yet, and that he may want himself to be anonymous. I told him that info is Freedom of Information (FOI) and said I could request it but, not now. Unsure what I think about that, but I do want to get this guys name and get in contact with him. Want to confirm what I heard was true or not, because I was surprised, he may want my footage. Called Patrick again and told him what I did and everything I spoke about above and will likely write an update to the Jalopnik post. Just though I would let my fellow camaro5 family know first hand the outcome!

I once happened to be in a position to videotape a major crime in progress. I dutifully turned the video over to law enforcement immediately. I was later called to "come in to the station to give more details" about what I had seen. I went to the station, but instead of asking me details, they strapped me into a polygraph machine, and interrogated me for four hours. They said that my video was "too good," and therefore, I must have orchestrated it all. Eventually, I was released, with a stern warning that they were "onto me," and were going to get me. Months later, though, I learned from the news that the actual perpetrators had been caught--- and eventually convicted--- based mostly upon the video of an "anonymous citizen." I have never received thanks, or an apology, or even my damn tape back. That's okay... I didn't do it for the glory, or for a reward, or anything... I just did it to be a good guy. However, the experience taught me to be very careful... cops aren't always right, and even when they are wrong, it can be extremely difficult for them to admit that. Sure, it's human nature... but a cop with integrity will admit failures. A cop that lacks integrity is still allowed to make mistakes, but if offered evidence showing so, and he refuses to acknowledge it, well, that cop is a piece of crap who besmirches the name of all of the GOOD officers out there. |

"I'm really sorry for attempting to bury exculpatory evidence that exonerates a man I arrested. My bad. I mean, sure I tried to destroy the life of an innocent man, but look it at from my perspective. If I admitted to making a mistake my face would have been so red!" |
