I think all of this back is fourth is funny. Most of us will be using them for Sunday drives and car shows.

And most of us aren't good enough drivers to find the limits of either car. I'm glad the HP wars are back and I welcome all the players. These are good times to be a Motorhead.

and ford cares about "total performance" as well. All the makes do actually. Look at the mustang though, the 5.0 and boss are very capable track performers. The Boss is an excellent track car and is great on the strip as well. Last i checked (a few months ago) the baby brother Boss Mustang stock with only a tire were running 11.7's@117mph. Thats a good all round car if you ask me and not just a drag strip monster.
Thanks for making my point, both are high capable vehicles, but a 1LE and the ZL1 would beat the boss and the GT500 on a road course at a lower price point to boot. While it seams the GT 500 would probably beat the ZL1 in a straight line and have respectable performance at the track. The question is do you want a track car or a drag strip car as the main priority.

That thing has got to be very difficult to launch on street tires. And remember, they don't get the auto transmission like the some of the ZL1 do.

But on a properly prepped 1/4 mile track with a decent driver, I wouldn't bet on too many ZL1's beating it.

From what I've heard, Ford was smart with getting the power down, finally. They not only have launch control, traction control, but torque is being limited in first gear as to not roast the tires. Heard it hits around 65mph in 1st gear. This car is going the be a monster. 3 and 4th gears are going to pull, really, really hard.

have the boss and 1LE gone head to head yet? or are you just comparing magazine times to GM's private driver runs?

Well, it looks like its now going to be Corvette vs Shelby (straight line) and ZL1 vs Shelby (track). Maybe.

how does that make your point if nobodies even taken a ZL1 to a road course but have taken their car to the dynoes and drag strips? My point is that no matter what people say, straight line acceleration is going to be the VAST majority on how these cars are raced. its the truth.

I say congrats to them. I'll stick with my ZL1. If I wanted a car built to win drag races thats what I would have invested in. Now if you ever wanna use that thing in front of you called a steering wheel the ZL1 is still the car to have.

So how do you know if the Z will be faster around a track than the 13 Shelby? Even if it was by a few seconds so what...

How do you know that the base model 13 Shelby, which is cheaper than the ZL1, wont hang with it on a roadcourse?

Do you really think that the 13 Shelby won't tear up a roadcourse?

Al Hameedi the head SVT engineer already said it was faster than a Ford GT on the track. Is that not fast enough for someone to toy around with on a weekend?

Is there anybody taking the Z to the track at all LOL???

You guys keep talking about this roadcourse crap like it's all that matters, but i don't see any of you doing it...

If I wanted a drag car, I wouldn't start off with a $55k+ one. I think one could get a car into low to mid 11s for under 10 grand, including a car.

That's not what I was after, I was after the best looking fun to drive car for under $60k. Mission accomplished!

Blah Blah Blah Blah. Who cares if the Rustang has 1000HP there is always someone faster. If all you want is the top horse power then getcha one of those and mod it. I have a friend with a twin turbo 2010 SS with about 1500 HP waiting for you.

Let's see them put that extra power to the ground, and handle the track as well as the ZL1, if so, good for them. It's still a big heavy muscle car, it won't act like a Vette no matter how much power they stuff under the hood.
But maybe this will push the ZL1 forum and we'll up thanking them. Don't think they would have put so much power in the Stang if it wasn't for the ZL1.
