Hemi Dave for the win. I can see him heading up the return line with a big smile on his face.

How can Dodge and SRT sell the HC for such a low price, with all the research and development money that went into the car? I am STRONGLY hoping that the car doesn't come back and bite us in the ass, with Dodge and SRT using inferior and cheap parts. I've been wondering about that lately. How does Dodge and SRT hope to make their money back with all that time and effort put into this monster?
Hopefully I am just over thinking it and the car is built like it should be.
From a parts perspective, most of it was already in the Mopar parts bin. The remainder is parts sharing that brings down the cost. You'd be surprised at the amount of parts sharing going on between Jeep, RAM, Chrysler, and Dodge.

The ZL1 development did a very similar thing. The Camaro was already out for quite a bit before they introduced the ZL1. Most of the chassis R&D was already done. The only thing left to do was redesign the front end for airflow (a plastic composite piece just like the Challenger), add additional cooling components for the engine, beef up the drivetrain, and tweak the suspension. A lot of the parts the ZL1 used, could be found in the CTS-V lineup and the GM performance bin from Corvette.

The rest is about taking a different sales perspective; making the vehicle obtainable and focusing on increasing sale volumes.

Is it coincidental that Ford is now targeting the Global Market instead of just domestic?

With the Hellcat, there are dealerships selling it for MSRP without markup and at the same token, they are the same dealerships that have the largest allocations of initial build Hellcats in the country.

Whether it's Ford, Camaro or Mustang; they were not meant to be exclusive exotics. They are meant to be obtainable American Muscle cars.

No.

Hod Rod Magazine: Will there be a future for the Hellcat? Is it a limited production car?
Tim Kuniskis (Dodge CEO): This one I love, because I’m so pissed about this. Someone wrote an article and said, ‘F Dodge, they built this awesome car but they are only gonna build 1200 of them and I’ll never be able to get one,’ Bullshit. We never said that! I don’t know where the guy got that information. The Hellcat is not limited production. We’ll see what the demand is, but definitely not limited to 1200.

Good thing, because at $59,990 there's gonna be demand for a LOT more of these than that. Almost makes me wonder who is going to buy an SRT 392 for just a few grand less.

I think perhaps the best analogy I can give is how the LSA is related in design to the ls3 and ls9
The Hellcat engine block is shared from the 6.4L RAM engine. The thing that made it a 6.2L is the shortened stroke. The heads are Apache heads and are used on all of the 392 engines.

ZL1 - 4.06 bore x 3.62 stroke
H/C - 4.09 bore x 3.58 stroke

The 3.58 stroke is the same stroke used in the 5.7L Hemi (just a beefed up crank). The 4.09 bore is used in all 392 engines. There are, however, two different blocks; a beefed up version that is used in the RAM and the regular version used in the SRT car lineup.

One move SRT did was to put the 6-piston brembos, 20x9.5 rims and Pirelli tires as standard on both the Hellcat and 392 SRT; if not, I agree, the 392 SRT would not be as appealing.

Since they did that, the main difference between the two will just be the transmission (slightly beefed up for the Hellcat) engine, sway bars, rear differential, rear suspension, and some other drivetrain related parts, however, the rest of the parts will be the same.

If you opt for the 392 R/T (same engine as the 392 SRT), the main difference will be the technology creature comforts of the SRT are not standard on the R/T and the R/T doesn't have the adaptive suspension, has 20x9 rims, no Pirellis, and 4-piston brembos. About a $4-5,000 difference between R/T and SRT 392. About a $9,000-11,000 difference (depending on transmission) between 392 SRT and Hellcat. Also, the Hellcat doesn't get all of the technology features (adaptive cruise control etc) as the 392 SRT so that helps reduce the gap.

This won't even be seen until AFTER, the Z/28 hunting, GT350 debuts. As exciting as this possible news could be (I hope it's true), let's not congest other threads. Feel free to post in the linked thread above.

Let's keep this thread for SRT discussion.
