You aren't joking there. I love seeing the air force women out and about, especially here down range. They are a sight for sore eyes.

Maybe that's why you did. Not me. Defending my country is one of the duties that comes along with it and I'm fine with that. I'm not concerned with the GI bill so much. The education I'm talking about is the stuff that I'd learn while being trained for whatever it is I'd be doing in the army. Sorry if I was unclear about that.

Sorry to disagree with you but your primary duty WILL be defending your country. With luck you would never have to do it but it is your primary duty. So when you get orders to go to some far off third world dungheap as many before you have remember that. If not you will just be bitching that you didn't sign up for this you just wanted a free education. If thats your attitude and goal then go apply for some grants and go to college or tech school while others make sure you have the freedom to do so.

Okay you sound a little bitter. How can you tell someone why THEY joined the military. I know many of guys who joined for the education that is provided IN the military and not the GI Bill. The guys that are here for the education are no different than anyone else. Everybody has their own reason for joining.

The only bitterness is for the people who join the military to only get a free education and benefits and are totally shocked when they are called upon to defend their country. There were plenty of those in Desert Shield/Storm which if you will recall was an all volunteer, no draft involved, service. Believe me I didn't want to be there either but it was a possibility from the day I joined. There are great benefits to being in any of the US armed forces. I recommend it to any young man or woman. I just try to stress to anyone I know who is considering joining, that defending their country is their number one job. That is historically what a military is for. With luck they will never have to serve that role in anything other than continuous training readiness and they can serve their time and enjoy all those perks and training from an enjoyable duty assignment. Would you tell anyone who is joining any different? If so you must be the recruiter from Private Benjamin.

Wow.... I am completely dumbfounded over your statement. Just because someone is not in the middle east or such place does not mean they are not defending their country. Every person in the military has a important role and all those roles click together to form a great power. The people on the frontlines are not the only ones defending the country.

That is completely ridiculous..... You can not tell people why they joined the military.
