So, Been a while since I've posted in here... Tweaked my back getting out of bed in October. Wasn't fun.

Things are better now, back to working out so pretty happy about that.

Question- are most of you just lifting/working out for general better health, body building? Other?

I guess a better question would be what are your ultimate goals? Anyone training for an event?

I am training to break the masters bench record in the AAPF this year in my weight class.

Had chest yesterday. Car shopping today with the wife. So back tomorrow.

Awkward chest session yesterday as a strange red headed guy I had never seen before came into the gym. I have been focusing mostly on flat bench as I have been working with the slingshot so 315lbs plus isn't that uncommon. Everytime I stood up after the wife spotted me this gentleman was glareing at me. This guy used the cable crossover machine two benches a way to do rotator cuff extensions for 20 minutes and talked on his phone for 10 prior to that (I work in corrections so I'm absurdly aware of my enviorment). My wife even noticed and felt awkward (she was thrown off as it's usually her people stare at lol). Eventually after 25 minutes of this I asked he was just waiting for the bench. He said "No". I asked him if I knew him. He said "No". Not being shy I asked him if he realized her was glareing at me everytime I looked over. I let him know it was actually pretty uncomfortable. He apologized and said he had never seen anyone with my build up close and he was apparently astonished. I introduced myself and told him to feel free to say "Hi". I'm not one for much talk in the gym except with the wife cause it usually leads to "How often do you workout" "What do you take" conversations which are excruciating.

He even offered to spot me as he watched my wife spot me with 110lber's on on incline presses. I let him know I married my wife cause she spots me with more than that lol. He laughed and went about his business.

Chest and light Tris today ...

Diesel that story is common haha, I work out on a base gym with a bunch of Air Force scientist so lifting weights isn't something familiar to a bunch of these guys. Similar to your story I had this one guy who mimicked my entire workout, after I finished on a bench or machine he proceeded to copy what I did last. (W/out form) At the end I just made some simple convo and told him if he ever had questions feel free to ask.

It's fairly common for people to stare but no so blatantly. I don't mind making eye contact once or twice. But gawking is awkward and distracting. I've had people follow suit to w the machines. That generally puts pressure on me to hurry up so to throw them off I usually grab on of 4 flat benches and grab 120's lol

There are always awkward watchers at the gym. Thankfully I see less of it at Crossfit, idk why. Or maybe I'm just not paying attention anymore.

Listening to all the gym stories here and there make me hate them even more and I don't go to one. lol.

Meanwhile had another decent workout, took squats real deep (for my old ass) and did a few sets of leg raises as part of my routine with no pain at all from the surgery. Huge improvement. I may spend one more week on my 3-day just to be on the safe side and may try some light deadlifts to get a feel for it. Then if all go's well I'll start back on a more intense workout.

Too long ago is that answer...

But I started physical therapy on my leg and back this week. It's definitely a workout. One our goals is to roll five more weeks of PT over into a regular gym routine. I'll enjoy it, plus hopefully it will help me keep my back in shape from now on.

Irony, I originally hurt my back in the gym, going to start going back to the gym to keep it healthy.

I hurt my back at work last summer and when it finally felt better, i was squatting and tweaked it again. Since then I've been scared to hurt it again and I've been lifting for "fitness." Going to the gym has felt like a chore and it was really hard to get motivated. Lately I've decided to lift heavy and gosh it's just so much more fun. I'm not strong by any means, but lifing as much as I can has brought the excitement back to working out.
